This Spotlight focuses on Jon Lawrence Rivera, co-founder of Playwrights' Arena with Steve Tyler in 1992 during the LA Riots. At the time, and for at least two decades, we were the only theater dedicated to discovering, nurturing, and producing new works for the stage written exclusively by Los Angeles playwrights to be enjoyed by adventurous minds. I first discovered Playwrights' Arena when their 2017 production of Bloodletting was selected to be presented during Center Theatre Group's 2018 Block Party at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.

This Spotlight focuses on Simon Levy who began his directing career in San Francisco, then moved to Los Angeles in 1990 where he has been the Producing Director for the Fountain Theatre since 1993. His directing and producing credits are numerous, with over 100 productions in Los Angeles and San Francisco that have won more than 200 awards. His journey has been blessed with having wonderful mentors along the way, which has enabled the talented director to earn his living doing theatre and earned him great respect from the entire L.A. Theatre community.

So, what is she up to until she can back inside the Santa Monica Playhouse to perform for an audience again?

The new musical 57 Bus by RYAN M. LUEVANO and JILL HOFFMANN had a successful developmental reading in New York City on Monday February 24th, 2020. The reading took place at The Growing Studios and had a full house of over 80 theatre lovers. The audience submitted anonymous surveys after the presentation and used the following words to describe the musical: âYouthful, deep, powerful, insightful, heartfelt, thought-provoking, effervescent, important, relevant, informative, poignant, inspiring, and relatableâ.

Cleveland Public Theatre (CPT) and Teatro PÃºblico de Cleveland (TPC) present Marisol, by JosÃ© Rivera, translated by Aurora Lauzardo and Waldemar Burgos, and directed by Julia Rosa Sosa. The play will be performed in Spanish with English subtitles and will run March 5 â 21 in CPT's historic Gordon Square Theatre.

Rehearsals began yesterday for the remounting of Amas Musical Theatre's production of 'Romeo & Bernadette: A Musical Tale of Verona and Brooklyn.' Produced by Eric Krebs, performances are set to begin at Theatre Row on March 17 with an official re-opening on Thursday, March 26 at 7pm.

Alex Turner Productions and Trish Wadley Productions, in association with Park Theatre, present the 10th anniversary revival of Bruce Norris' seminal play Clybourne Park. Oliver Kaderbhai directs Alisha Bailey (Francine/Lena), Maddy Hill (Betsy/Lindsey), Andrew Langtree (Karl/Steve), and Richard Lintern (Russ/Dan), who join the previously announced Michael Fox (Jim/Tom), Imogen Stubbs (Bev/Kathy) and Eric Underwood (Albert/Kevin). The production opens on 30 March, with previews from 25 March, and runs until 2 May.

St. Louis's wonderful Winter Opera closes it's thirteenth season with a fine production of a rarely-seen work by Puccini--La fanciulla del West, or The Girl of the Golden West. Now Puccini was fond of choosing exotic settings for his operas--look at Madama Butterfly and Turandot. Well, to a European, Fanciulla is equally exotic. It's set in a mining camp in the Sierra Nevadas during the California Gold Rush of 1848.

Anthony and Frederick Douglass arrive in THE AGITATORS, a riveting new play by Mat Smart about two rebels who became American icons. Youthful hopes and dreams united Anthony and Douglass in their fight to end slavery, but over time, their disagreements about how to gain voting rights tested their alliance.
