Leon Kobrin's rediscovered 1912 play BREACH OF PROMISE, a darkly comic slice of tenement life in New York City, was presented Wednesday evening, July 31st at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research in a newly commissioned English translation (from the original Yiddish) by writer/director Allen Lewis Rickman.

Dirt Dogs Theatre Co.'s inaugural season continues with Five By Tenn: An Evening of Shorter Plays by Tennessee Williams. The creator of such American stage classics as A Streetcar Named Desire, Cat on a Hit Tin Roof, and The Glass Menagerie, Williams also published over seventy on-act plays. A 25th anniversary production of the imaginative, fractured-fairy tale musical 'Into the Woods' by James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim will be staged at the theater where Sondheim was an apprentice in 1950, Westport Country Playhouse, in Westport, CT, through May 26. Directed by Mark Lamos, The Playhouse's artistic director, the musical will open the historic theater's 82nd season. It is co-produced with Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE.

Tennessee Williams is the subject of A LONELY MAN'S HABIT, a new play performed and written by Jeremy Lawrence, inspired by the words and work of the legendary author who would have celebrated his 100th birthday last Sunday. Performances begin Wednesday, March 30 at the cell (338 West 23rd St), running through April 16.
