BWW Review: A FLEA IN HER EAR at Westport Country Playhouse

Three years ago, this reviewer suggested that it was time to rediscover French theatre with the Westport Country Playhouse's production of David Ives's transplantation of Pierre Corneille's 1643 comedy, The Liar (Le Menteur). Happily, Mark Lamos, artistic director of the WCP, now brings us Ives's adaptation of Georges Feydeau's 1907 farce, A Flea in Her Ear (La puce a l'oreille). (more...)

Westport Country Playhouse will stage the lavish, large-cast comedy, "A Flea in Her Ear," newly adapted by David Ives from the original by Georges Feydeau, and directed by Mark Lamos, Westport Country Playhouse artistic director.  Fresh from a sold-out run by Delaware's Resident Ensemble Players (REP), a professional theater located at the University of Delaware, the co-production with the REP will run in Westport July 10 - 28.   (more...)

Vladimir Jurowski leads a rare revival of Richard Strauss's epic Die Frau ohne Schattenbeginning November 7, in the acclaimed staging by the late Herbert Wernicke that had its Met premiere in 2001. Anne Schwanewilms, one of the world's leading Strauss sopranos, makes her Met debut as the Empress. Christine Goerke, a graduate of the Met's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program who has recently emerged as a prominent international dramatic soprano, returns to the company after an absence of several seasons to sing the role of the Dyer's Wife. The cast also includes Torsten Kerl as the Emperor, Johan Reuter as Barak, and Ildikó Komlósi as the Nurse. On November 16, American soprano Meagan Miller will make her Met debut as the Empress. A Gate Theatre, Dublin production, No Man's Land is presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and Michael Colgan, with design by Giles Cadle, lighting by Neil Austin and sound and music by Adam Cork.
