We are back! The Alcove Dinner Theatre opens its 2020-21 season with the hilarious production of Wally’s Café by Sam Bobrick and Ron Clark. Wally’s Café opened on Broadway in 1981, starring James Coco, Rita Moreno and Sally Struthers. Performances dates are every Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 29-30, Nov. 5-20. Social hour is 6:30 p.m., dinner is served at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins after dinner. Dinner selections and prices are on the Alcove and MTVarts website. Long Awaited, Brazilian Production of OS ULTIMOS 5 ANOS (The Last 5 Years) Opens In Sao Paulo

Starring Eline Porto and Beto Sargentelli, who also take on production alongside Lucas Mello, the musical The Last 5 Years written by Jason Robert Brown, arrives in Sao Paulo, for a short season. Directed by Joao Fonseca, musical direction by Thiago Gimenes and versions to Portuguese by Rafael Oliveira, the production, which relates in a different and special way the last years of the relationship lived by Cathy and Jamie, is a success in several countries and now opens in Brazil.

Film and stage legend and two-time Tony Award winner Lauren Bacall, passed away last week (first reported by TMZ) at the age of 89. San Diego Musical Theatre "The Local Way to See Broadway" presents their first production of 2014, CATS, running two more weekends at the North Park Theatre throughApril 6, 2014. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Eliot, CATS tells the story, in song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. A true musical theatre phenomenon, CATS opened at London's New London Theatre on May 11, 1981 and ran for a record-setting 21 years. CATS's London success was nearly matched on Broadway where it ran at the Wintergarden Theatre for just over 18 years. Learned, Nichols Star in Alhambra Theatre's DRIVING MISS DAISY, 2/2

Winning a Pulitzer Prize in 1988 and the Oscar for Best Picture in 1989, "Driving Miss Daisy" is opening at the Alhambra Theatre on February 5. Appropriate for a play of such esteem, the Alhambra has brought in not one, as has been its custom of late, but two stars to carry the show: four-time Emmy Award Winner, Michael Learned will star as Daisy Werthan and Lance Nichols, star of the HBO series TREME, as her chauffeur, Hoke Coleburn. This will be the fourth time Learned and Nichols will star together in "Driving Miss Daisy." Rounding out the three-person cast is Michael Edward Hodge, a New York actor who plays Daisy's son, Boolie Werthan.

PUMP BOYS AND DINETTES is conceived and written by John Foley, Mark Hadwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel, and Jim Wann, who also starred in the original Off-Broadway production, which later went on to Broadway and received a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical of 1982 and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Musical for 1981-82.
