Respect: A Musical Journey Of Women - currently playing through March 25th at Port Jefferson's gorgeous Theatre Three - is truly a thought-provoking show taking the audience on a roller coaster of emotions. The musical, created by Dorothy Marcic, takes us on the journey of women - inspired by the women in her life - through generations of Top 40 music. As society has changed, the attitude and tone in music has changed and with this production, Dorothy has basically built the soundtrack of generations of women. Do we as women have further to go? Yes, but the progress that we see is really inspiring from the 'doting housewife' to influential civil rights activists to Presidents of essential organizations.

To call JERSEY BOYS a 'jukebox musical' is downright myopic, as underneath the musical's cotton-candy pop hits lies a piercing story of ambition, love, drugs, sex, greed, failures, triumphs, and yes, family values. However, it would take more than a fanatic mind to look beyond those monster hits to see the real heart of the show--one that tells of realities past that still ring true in today's cutthroat music industry.

ON YOUR FEET!, the new Broadway musical based on the life story of seven-time GRAMMY winning international superstar Gloria Estefan and her husband, nineteen-time GRAMMY winning producer-musician-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, opens on Broadway tonight, November 5, 2015 at the Marquis Theatre. Let's see what the critics had to say...
From fluffy entertainments to serious dramas, JERSEY BOYS has helped the jukebox musical grow.

Set before 'the day the music died,' Buddy-The Buddy Holly Story tells the true story of rock star Buddy Holly's meteoric rise to fame in the late 1950s-before his life was cut short, along with Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson, in a 1959 plane crash.
The jukebox musical JERSEY BOYS is a crowd-pleaser. The story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons will celebrate 10 years on Broadway this fall and the tour is making its third stop in Minneapolis this week. At times during last night's opening night, the crowd reacted like this was a Four Seasons tribute concert. But it's so much more than that. This jukebox musical is not just hit after hit strung together with some loose threads we're supposed to accept as a plot. Rather this beloved and familiar music is woven into the true life story of the rise and fall of these Hall of Fame rock-and-rollers. It's like an episode of VH1's Behind the Music, revealing that all was not rosy behind those crisp harmonies and sharp dance moves. Fame and celebrity at a young age rarely lead to a smooth road in life. Any show that featured a string of hits from the '60s would be sure to sell out to a population dominated by baby boomers, but it's the clever book that weaves the hits together and tells a story worth hearing that is responsible for JERSEY BOYS' critical success and staying power.
The 60's were an exciting time for music in America, due in no small part to the proliferation of groups with amazing vocal harmonies like The Mamas & Papas, The Beach Boys, Spanky & Our Gang and The Four Seasons. JERSEY BOYS is a jukebox musical based on the song catalog of The Four Seasons; however, unlike most jukebox musicals, JERSEY BOYS features an intelligent script where the songs flow with the story instead of being forced into a storyline. I suspect the participation of Rick Elice, who was also one of the scriptwriters for the charming and witty PETER AND THE STARCATCHER had more than a little to do with the intelligence and theatrical storytelling skill on display here.
Everyone knows Scrooge and Mr. Potter, but can the holiday spirit work its magic on everyone's favorite man of mystery? Back for a fourth year, Raven Theatre's Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Goose follows Holmes and Watson as they investigate the mysterious theft and even more mysterious discovery of the Countess of Morcar's blue carbuncle, today, December 10-January 4.
Rolling Stone Magazine ranked pioneering musician, songwriter and bandleader Louis Jordan number 59 on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Known as 'The King of Jukebox', and 'The Grandfather of Rock 'n Roll', Jordan's music appealed to everyone - regularly topping music charts - mainstream, top ten, and pop - from the 1930s swing era into the 1950's rock and roll revolution In Five Guys Named Moe playwright Clarke Peters has fashioned an exciting, exhilarating, and exuberantly loving tribute to Jordan and his music. The production will run at Broward Stage Door Theatre from December 10th through January 18th.
The Douglas Morrisson Theatre continues its 35th Season with the musical CANDIDE, Royal National Theatre Version, with music by Leonard Bernstein, book adapted from Voltaire by Hugh Wheeler, in a new version by John Caird; and lyrics by Richard Wilbur, additional lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, John Latouche, Lillian Hellman, Dorothy Parker and Leonard Bernstein. Featuring Leonard Bernstein's soaring score and lyrics from some of the wittiest writers of all time, this rollicking musical satire chronicles the lives and loves of Candide, a simple soul whose glass is always half-full.
