The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

Today, baritone Will Liverman has released Dreams of a New Day: Songs by Black Composers with pianist Paul Sánchez on Cedille Records. Liverman says, “Right now, it is more important than ever to celebrate the contributions of Black composers, and I’m honored to give voice to the art songs on this album.'

If you've attended theater in the Bay Area with any degree of regularity over the past few decades, chances are you've seen actress Lorri Holt - a lot! Since the 1980's, Holt has become a veritable local treasure, performing with theater companies large and small across the Bay Area, creating roles in scores of new plays along the way. Among many career highlights, she was part of the fabled Eureka Theatre Company that commissioned Tony Kushner to write Angels in America where Holt originated the role of Harper Pitt. Holt's latest performance, in Who Killed Sylvia Plath? by award-winning playwright Lynne Kaufman, is enjoying a virtual return engagement on MarshStream November 28th and 29th after winning the award for Best Full Length at the recent MarshStream International Solo Fest. With holiday music taking over the radio waves earlier than ever, ASCAP, a professional membership organization of songwriters, composers and music publishers, announces the Top 25 ASCAP Holiday Songs of 2020 – a soundtrack to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

The Musical.

DOGFIGHT is a marvelous show. This intimate, carefully written musical had its Scandinavian Premiere on Monday night at Riksscenen in Oslo. It shows what musical theatre really can be in its truest form. You don't need huge scenery and big effects. It all depends on great material, strong performers and an inventive creative team. And this is indeed masterfully performed by a very strong ensemble.

New Hope Pa. is a livelier than usual town this summer because of two special ladies. Sally Struthers, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress, best known for her roles in 'All in the Family' and 'Gilmore Girls. Her Broadway credits Wally's Café' with Rita Moreno, and Jimmy Coco and Neil Simon's female version of 'The Odd Couple' with Brenda Vaccaro. She also starred on Broadway and on tour in Tommy Tune's production of 'Grease' and played Miss Hannigan in the 20th anniversary national tour of ANNIE.

Lorna Luft... and The Beatles? That's right. Lorna Luft, famous for her Broadway belt and her concerts that pay tribute to The American Songbook and the musical legacy of a legendary Lady with whom she shares a special bond has a brand-new show, and it's an extremely personal one because it's all hers.

BroadwayWorld is saddened to report that composer and orchestrator Sid Ramin, best known for his work on West Side Story, has died, according to The New York Times. Ramin was 100 years old.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF) honors the great French composer Michel Legrand, who died in January this year, with a special Cin Salon series devoted to his life and work. Curated by one of his longtime collaborators and greatest interpreters, singer and actress Melissa Errico, Summer of Michel Legrand brings together seven of his films from his best known triumphs such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort to lesser known gems such as the enchanting fairy-tale musical Donkey Skin. Screenings take place on Tuesdays in July at 4pm and 7:30pm in FIAF's Florence Gould Hall.

Like most of his work, Ken Ludwig's Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery is a sure-fire crowd pleaser. Ludwig reimagines an Arthur Conan Doyle classic as a farce, complete with madcap antics and a small troupe of actors playing a multitude of memorable characters. Michael Duffy's production for Sumter Little Theatre is a great reason to check out a lovely playhouse outside of the Metro.

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the independent, not-for-profit affiliate of SDC, Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, today announced unique plans for its 2019 award evening, which will feature original choreographic pieces resulting from a special commissioning program, with the application period now open. SDCF also announced that Victoria Traube would receive a special 'Mr. Abbott' Award at the event, to be held March 25 at the French Institute Alliance Francaise (FIAF).
