Broadway had never seen anything like it: An anti-war rock musical featuring nudity, profanity and drugs. 'Hair,' premiering on stage in 1968, was a reflection of the turbulent times. Diane Paulus, who fell in love with the show's music at age eight, and would grow up to direct a Tony-winning Broadway revival of 'Hair' in 2009, talked with CBS Sunday Morning correspondent Susan Spencer about the importance of the show in musical theater history.

BroadwayWorld has just learned that following on the heels of NBC's critically acclaimed rock musical 'Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert' comes the true original rock musical, 'Hair Live!,' which will be broadcast in the spring of 2019 in front of a live audience.

Pioneer Productions will present Hair - The American Tribal Love Musical directed by Daniel Peter Vissers July 6-8 and 13-15 at The George Fry Center for the Arts at the Fair Lawn Community Center. 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the show's debut on Broadway, and its themes of rebellion, activism and speaking truth to power have never resonated with audiences more.

On Monday, June 18, 2018, the theater world and New York communities will come together for Broadway Sings for Pride's 8th annual charity concert entitled "Revolution"!  Hair co-creator James Rado (Grammy-Award Winner) and Hair original choreographer Julie Arenal (Broadway/West End) will join over 35 tribe members to celebrate Pride with a special Hair reunion musical performance during the event.

This is the 50th anniversary of the love-rock musical Hair, which took the Broadway stage in April 1968. James Rado, co-creator of Hair as well as an original Broadway cast member, was in his hometown of Rochester, N.Y. recently to be inducted into the Rochester Music Hall of Fame. There he met up with Florence LaRue, lead singer of The 5th Dimension -- the band that blended two songs from Hair to top the pop-music charts.

American mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick is one of the world's leading exponents of the dramatic Verdi repertoire. Her talent was first noticed when she was a pre-med student at the University of Nevada in Reno. Some years after that, she debuted with the San Francisco Opera as Azucena in IL TROVATORE, and it brought her international stardom. Porchlight Music Theatre and Artistic Director Michael Weber are proud to announce the final production in its 2017 - 2018 season of Chicago's hit musical revue series, New Faces Sing Broadway. New Faces Sing Broadway 1975, hosted by Donica Lynn with direction by Christopher Pazdernik and music direction by David Fiorello, is Tuesday, June 5 at The Skokie Theatre, 7924 Lincoln Ave., Skokie at 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, June 6 at The Arts Club of Chicago, 201 E. Each edition is a "time-machine" journey from the start to the finish of an entire musical season from the classic days of Broadway, peppered with photos and films of the era in an exciting multimedia presentation with a favorite Chicago theatre veteran like Donica Lynn hosting and introducing the next generation of music theatre artists while acting as your guide through a vintage year on the Great White Way. The San Francisco International Arts Festival (SFIAF) released the detailed performance schedule for the 2018 Program today. Forty different artist ensembles and companies will present their work exclusively at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC) from May 24 - June 3. Early Bird Tickets will go on sale for $15 on Thursday March 1.

The Daily News is reporting that several actresses have accused Broadway veteran Ben Vereen of sexual assault during a production of Hair he directed in Florida in 2015. The women say that Vereen made physical advances such as unwanted kisses and hugs, as well as verbal abuse about the actresses' weight, sex appeal, and personal lives.
