As BroadwayWorld reported this morning, Bette Midler will indeed return to Broadway in one of the most cherished shows in musical theater history when she takes on the role of Dolly Gallagher Levi in Michael Stewart's (book) and Jerry Herman's (music and lyrics) masterpiece, Hello, Dolly!. Directed by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks, Hello, Dolly! will begin performances on Broadway on March 13, 2017, with an official opening night of April 20, 2017. Rehearsals begin one year from today. This new production of Hello, Dolly!, the first new production of this classic musical to appear on Broadway since it opened more than fifty years ago, will have at its helm Jerry Zaks as its director, and will feature choreography by Tony Award-winner Warren Carlyle. The new Dolly! will pay tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion, which has been hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history. Today, December 8, Palm Beach Dramaworks launches the third season of its highly successful Dramalogue - Talking Theatre! series with Paul Gemignani: Musical Theatre's Master Maestro. The program features the esteemed Broadway musical director in conversation with Sheryl Flatow. Gemignani, recipient of the 2001 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, will discuss a remarkable career still going strong after more than 40 years, and talk about how he helps shape a show and bring a score to life. The program will be presented twice, at 2pm (limited seating available) and 7pm at the Don & Ann Brown Theatre.

Australian actors Kerrie Anne Greenland (Eponine), Chris Durling (Enjolras), and Emily Langridge (Cosette) will join previously announced cast members Simon Gleeson (Jean Valjean), Earl Carpenter (Javert), and Rachelle Ann Go (Fantine) when the new Asian Tour of the newly reimagined LES MISERABLES (LES MIS) kicks off at The Theatre at Solaire (1 Aseana Ave. Entertainment City, Paranaque City) in March 2016. In the space between the provocative opening questions and final reflections of Frank Higgins' THE TASTE TEST, a potentially clever take on identity, friendship and betrayal fizzles flat. Higgins' work is as contrived and sophomoric as a freshman stab at drama, and the performances in Black Theatre Troupe's staging don't save it.

Cabaret star Steve Ross will debut STEVE ROSS ON BROADWAY: Songs He's Always Wanted To Sing and Songs You've Always Wanted to Hear at Birdland Jazz Club on Monday, July 7th at 7pm. Mr. Ross' very special guest star will be International icon Liliane Montevecchi, featuring Jesse Bielenberg on bass. The wide-ranging program includes songs by George and Ira Gershwin, Howard Dietz and Arthur Schwartz, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim and others.

The 69th Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 7th at 8/9c hosted by Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long award season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize. 

Arden Theatre Company hosts its Master Storyteller Award ceremony and concert tonight, June 1, 2015. The award will be bestowed upon Composer and Lyricist Stephen Sondheim, who will accept the award at a ticketed ceremony and concert, which is a fundraising benefit for the Arden's extensive educational and outreach programs. Composer and Lyricist Jason Robert Brown will present Mr. Sondheim with the award.
