Five Guys Named Moe uses the music of Louis Jordan and other r&b/blues/jazz artists from the 1940s-1950s. Jordan, known as "The King of the Jukebox," was one of music's first crossover artists, topping both the R&B and mainstream pop charts numerous times throughout his career. Jordan is also known for pioneering "jump blues," a mix of jazz, blues and boogie-woogie music.

This musical comedy is based on an earlier musical short of the same name by Louis Jordan from 1943. it had its UK debut in 1990 a the Theatre Royal Stratford East, running for over four years in the West End and then premiering on Broadway in 1992. The story: features Nomax (played by Damron R Armstrong making a surprise  appearance in the last show of his inaugural season) whose broke and girlfriend has left him. He's then aided back to soberity by the band Five Guys Named Moe ( Big Moe - Douglass Walker, Four-eyed MoeNathaniel Rasson, Eat Moe - Rodney Thompson, No Moe - Christopher Barksdale and Little Moe - Francisco "Pancho" Villeage) who seem to emerge from his radio to take him on a comedic musical journey of selfawareness.

Brown) announced today that ERT will present FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE starring Emmy Award-winner Obba Babatunde (Dreamgirls/Tony nomination). Written by Clarke Peters, this exuberant, international hit musical pays tribute to the music of rhythm and blues pioneer Louis Jordan.  ERT's production, directed and choreographed by Keith Young (On The Town), with musical direction by Abdul Hamid Royal (FIVE GUYS NAMED MOE/original Broadway production) will commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the musical's Broadway production. Performances will run May 18 - June 11, 2017 with an official press opening on Saturday, May 20 at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (4718 West Washington Boulevard) in Los Angeles, 90016.
