A recipient of the 2022 Tony Awards Honor for Excellence in the Theatre, 54 Below celebrates Broadway musicals and writers of the past and present, promoting an ongoing engagement with their work.

54 Below will welcome Broadway’s original Effie White, Jennifer Holliday, to the popular Diamond Series for six performances from February 21-26 at 8:30pm.

Sheryl Lee Ralph performed 'Lift Every Voice and Sing' at the Super Bowl last night. Ralph recently won an Emmy for Abbott Elementary. Based on the show business aspirations and successes of R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, and Jackie Wilson, Dreamgirls tells the story of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois called 'The Dreams,' who become music superstars. Through gospel, R&B, smooth pop, disco and more, this musical explores themes of ambition, hope, and betrayal, all set in the glamorous and competitive world of the entertainment industry.

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will continue its 2022-2023 “American Dreams” theatre season with the highly-anticipated production, “Dreamgirls.” The show runs from February 22 through April 9, 2023.

This week Jennifer Holliday and Loretta Devine will sit down on Friday Night Vibes to discuss their experience working on 'Dreamgirls' with Tiffany Haddish and co-host Deon Cole. Additionally, super fan Diimond Meeks will perform 'And I Am Telling You' on the episode. Holliday and Devine starred in the original Broadway production of the musical.

Let’s stipulate that book writer and lyricist Tom Eyen and composer Henry Krieger were not Sondheim. What they gave us in Dreamgirls was serviceable, not brilliant, the result of a long development process largely aimed at repairing holes in the melodrama. The result: the company that puts on the show has a heavy lift indeed. But I have to say that ArtsCentric proves to have very strong arms.
