Signature Theatre presents Spunk based on three short stories by Zora Neale Hurston (Their Eyes Were Watching God) and adapted by acclaimed writer and director George C. Wolfe (Jelly's Last Jam, Shuffle Along). The production is directed by Timothy Douglas (Arena's Nina Simone: Four Women, Disgraced). Spunk runs from April 30 through June 23 in Signature's ARK Theatre.

With the critically acclaimed Captain Corelli's Mandolin currently running, Rose Theatre Kingston today announce Out of the Dark, a debut play written by Suzy Gill. Fay Lomas, winner of the 2019 Peter Hall Emerging Artist Fellowship, an annual award introduced to commemorate the legacy of Sir Peter Hall, directs. Out of the Dark opens at the Rose Studio on Wednesday 30 October and runs until Saturday 2 November 2019.

Bergen County Players, one of America's longest-running little theater companies, will conclude its successful 86th season with a limited engagement of Muray Shisgal's one-act comedy drama The Typists. Under the direction of Jerry Pettinati, The Typists will run June 8th and June 9th at the Little Firehouse Theatre in Oradell. Show times will be Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 2pm. From June 19 to 23, New Yiddish Rep will present 'Crazy Meshuge Hurricane Earthquake' by Amy Coleman, directed by David Mandelbaum, at The Playroom Theater, 151 West 46th Street, 8 fl. This six-character play (portrayed by four actors) is the story of an unlikely connection that develops between a middle aged non-religious Jewish woman and a young Hasidic man struggling with schizophrenia. Hired to be his caretaker, the woman attempts to give him the support he needs, but discovers that her agenda may have more to do with her own needs than his. The play offers important lessons on love and trust.

The National Endowment for the Arts Acting Chairman Mary Anne Carter has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the Arts Endowment's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2019.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to Bay Street Theater for the Literature Live! production in 2019 for regional schools. Art Works is the Arts Endowment's principal grantmaking program. The agency received 1,592 Art Works applications for this round of grantmaking and will award 977 grants in this category.
