The Civilians is presenting the newest members of The R&D Group, marking the Group’s 12th season. The R&D Group is comprised of playwrights, composers, and directors who work together as a writing group for nine months to develop new plays and musicals.

The BBC and Shakespeare's Globe have teamed up to celebrate the Globe's 25th Anniversary, broadcasting three films on BBC Four and BBC iPlayer. The productions span across the years with Michelle Terry in Twelfth Night (2021), Emma Rice's A Midsummer Night's Dream (2016) and Gemma Arterton in The Duchess of Malfi (2014).

Shakespeare's Globe has announced the cast and company for Julius Caesar. Directed by Diane Page, Globe on Tour will be bringing this production to The Globe Theatre and venues across the UK from 29 April - 10 September.

San Francisco Playhouse (Artistic Director Bill English; Producing Director Susi Damilano) announced casting for Twelfth Night, Shaina Taub and Kwame Kwei-Armah’s musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy.

Stockard Channing and Rebecca Night will perform in the Pulitzer Prize-winning 'night, Mother by Marsha Norman.  This astonishing play, which had its UK premiere at Hampstead Theatre in 1985, will be directed by the theatre's Artistic Director, Roxana Silbert.  'night, Mother will run from 22 October until 4 December 2021.

The touring programme includes theatre with Nouveau Riche's dance-theatre piece, Resonate, written and performed by Ntonga Mwanza; Lung Theatre's Who Cares by Matt Woodhead which explores the experience of young carers; the bike-powered family comedy, How to Save a Rock, written by Conky Kampfner, Alex Rugman and Pigfoot; and Tim Crouch's reimagining of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night from the point of view of its most notoriously abused steward in I, Malvolio.

This Spring, the acclaimed Watermill Theatre presents the World premiere of a captivating and powerful new folk-inspired musical. INTAR Theatre (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) and Radio Drama Network (Melina Brown, President) today announced the cast for the World Premiere of Bundle of Sticks, a new play by J. Julian Christopher, directed by Lou Moreno. Bundle of Sticks will play a special limited Off-Broadway engagement, beginning February 22nd and continuing through March 22nd only. WP Theater, under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Lisa McNulty and Managing Director Michael Sag, has announced that the world premiere of playwright and performer Donnetta Lavinia Grays' Where We Stand, co-presented by WP Theater and Baltimore Center Stage, will star Grays [Men on Boats, In The Next Room (or The Vibrator Play)], who will alternate select performances with David Ryan Smith (One Man, Two Guvnors; Passing Strange) beginning February 15. Former Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company member Brandon Potter will play Ebenezer Scrooge in the classic tale that follows a magical journey of hope and redemption. A Christmas Carol begins on Nov. 22 with a Pay-What-You-Can performance on Nov. 24 and runs through Dec. 29. Corkscrew Theater Festival, which runs July 10-August 3, inaugurates its Corkscrew Downstairs series of workshop productions this summer in the lower level theater at the Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Manhattan). The four projects all take classic texts as a starting point, including A Doll's House, Twelfth Night, the poetry of Walt Whitman, and Leslie Feinberg's 1993 novel Stone Butch Blues. Written and performed by rising professional talent, these readings have led to some memorable productions, including new versions of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night and Lauren Gunderson's hit Emilie: La Marquise Du Chatelet Defends Her Life Tonight. In 2017, a reading of playwright Matt Minnicino's 'distillation' - not 'adaptation,' as we get into below - of Moliere's The Misanthrope was performed. Written entirely in rhyming couplets, it follows a professional cynic who falls in love with an ingenue, and finds his devotion to insincerity tested. Now, it's the capper of Avant Bard's 29th season. I spoke to Minnicino about his career thus far, the adaptation process, and why audiences should be excited for this show.

California Shakespeare Theater opens its 2019 summer season with A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, playing May 22 through June 16, 2019 at the Bruns Amphitheater in Orinda.
