Chicago's historic Studebaker Theater will become the home of live opera with a contemporary adaptation of Henry Purcell's 1692 "The Fairy Queen," a reimagining of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" presented by Chicago Opera Theater (COT) beginning November 5.

The production features members of the Resident Acting Company and begins October 7 and runs through November 5. This month, the Alley Theatre hosts Shakespeare@400, a variety of educational and patron-engaging events, centered around the Alley's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream beginning previews October 7, and opening October 12.

The California-based performance troupe Culture Clash and COT's Andreas Mitisek put a modernized spin on Purcell's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic with an edgy and hilarious examination of the messes mere mortals make of relationships. "The Fairy Queen" will be performed at Chicago's historicStudebaker Theater (410 S. Michigan Ave). The press performance will be November 5 at 7:30 p.m.Subsequent performances will be November 11 at 7:30 p.m. and November 13 at 3 p.m.

American Repertory Ballet is pleased to announce A Midsummer Night's Dream at the State Theatre on Thursday, October 13 at 8:00 p.m. The performance is part of its 2016 fall series. Award-winning comedian, actor, writer and director Harry Enfield will play Hollywood studio boss Glogauer in Richard Jones' production of Once in a Lifetime from 25 November in the Young Vic's Main House. Joe Hill-Gibbins returns to the Young Vic and to Shakespeare following his critically acclaimed Measure for Measure in 2015. A Midsummer Night's Dream will play the Young Vic's Main House 17 February - 1 April.

Artistic Director of The Print Room at the Coronet Anda Winters today announces the full cast for Tennessee Williams' rarely performed A LOVELY SUNDAY IN CREVE COEUR, which opens the theatre's new Autumn season. The Public Theater will kick off the 2016-17 season in September with a free Public Works musical adaptation of TWELFTH NIGHT, conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub, with music and lyrics by Shaina Taub. James as Viola and Jose Llana as Orsino.
