Christmas came early this week at the press launch for Regal Entertainments' panto Peter Pan, which comes to St Helens Theatre Royal from Saturday 8 December 2018 - Sunday 13 January 2019.

Today (17 Sep), stars of Birmingham Hippodrome's high-flying pantomime adventure,Peter Pan arrived at the theatre for a first glimpse at the festive family spectacular coming this December. Jimmy Osmond, Meera Syal, Matt Slack and Jaymi Hensley posed in full costume ahead of the swashbuckling production sailing into Birmingham from Wednesday 19 December.

Tomorrow, August 25, marks what would have been legendary composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. Bernstein's work ranges from beloved musicals such as West Side Story and Peter Pan, to classic operettas like Candide. The author, pianist, and lecturer has inspired generations of composers, songwriters, singers, and artists, including Broadway standout Kristin Chenoweth.

SoLuna Studio will produce the family-friendly, Tony Award winning 'play with music' PETER AND THE STARCATCHER as a part their professional mainstage season, with performances running July 13th-29th. In this comic two-hander from theatre and TV writer and performer Roxy Dunn (Edinburgh 2016 sell-out show In Tents and Purposes), one couple tries to overcome Peter Pan syndrome as Dunn pits eternal youth and possibility against happiness in the here and now. Paralysed by indecision, 35 year old Tim's happy to stick to the 'nice solid non-moving ground' rather than move forward in his relationship with his 25 year old girlfriend, Judith. Frustrated by his lack of commitment, she delivers an ultimatum - Tim must choose between growing up or breaking up.

Birmingham Hippodrome have announced their star line-up for this year's must-see festive family production of Peter Pan, the high-flying pantomime adventure, starring Jimmy Osmond, Meera Syal, Matt Slack, Jaymi Hensley, The Timbuktu Tumblers and Sascha Williams, who will sail into Birmingham from Wed 19 December. 

With Bedlam's Saint Joan concluding Folger Theatre's 2017/18 season, The Washington Post chief theater critic Peter Marks sits down with the production's celebrated director Eric Tucker for a lively theater talk on Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00pm. Marks and Tucker will discuss the innovative, stripped-down staging of George Bernard Shaw's classic Saint Joan, the success of Eric's Bedlam theater in New York, bringing Jane Austen to the stage (Folger's Sense and Sensibility), approaching Shakespeare and other classic authors for a modern audience, and more.

Peter and the Starcatcher is based on the 2004 novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. It was adapted for the stage in 2011 by Rick Elice and provides a backstory for the characters of Peter Pan. In various reviews the play is described as literate, clever, enchanting and an extraordinary coming of age story. It's a play that transcends time and one that is equally at home in Victorian times as in the 21st Century. The show premiered in California then moved to Broadway where it was nominated for several awards including a Tony for best play.

Peter and the Starcatcher is a play based on the 2004 novel Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. Set in the round, the wonderfully-clever production has chuckling adults and wide-eyed children all believing in fairies.

I was attracted to Peter and the Starcatcher because of the script. It is an extremely well-crafted and an exceptionally inventive grown-up's prequel to Peter Pan where twelve actors play over 100 assorted characters, through the use animated characterization and the boundless limits of imagination. The actors enter a sparse stage and create a world for us where we face high adventure, big dreams, tough choices and flying; and the audience is asked to employ their imaginations immediately. The script is smart, tight, heartwarming and hilarious.

More exciting casting has been announced for Transport Group's benefit concert celebrating the classic 1954 musical, Peter Pan.
