Stephen Schwartz's much-loved musical celebrating the life and teachings of Jesus returns to Broadway.



The Gospel according to St. Matthew, 1970s style. As Jesus taught with parables and storytelling Godspell utilizes clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville to tell the story of Christ's passion. Familiar songs include "Day by Day," "Turn Back, O Man" and "Bless the Lord."

Last night, March 14, the casts of GODSPELL and WICKED gathered outside the Gershwin Theatre to wish Stephen Schwartz a happy birthday, which he celebrated last week. On hand for the festivities were Hunter Parrish (GODSPELL), Wallace Smith (GODSPELL), Lindsay Mendez (GODSPELL), Jackie Burns (WICKED), Richard H. Blake (WICKED) and more. Earlier this week, Two Boots Pizza in Hell's Kitchen (9th Ave. and 44th St.) unveiled their new pizza inspired by GODSPELL. The GODSPELL pizza contains casear chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, roasted garlic and jalapeño pesto on a white pie. Broadway's new revival of Stephen Schwartz's GODSPELL was featured on Lifetime Television's acclaimed reality competition 'Project Runway All Stars,' February 16. In the episode, the contestants competed for their 'Broadway debut' when Stephen Schwartz challenged the All Stars to put together an outfit for inclusion in the Broadway production of GODSPELL. The episode also featured ANYTHING GOES star and Tony Award winner Sutton Foster as a guest judge.

The 40th Anniversary production and first-ever Broadway revival of Stephen Schwartz's rock musical GODSPELL is currently playing at Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre. Directed by Daniel Goldstein and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Christopher Gattelli, the show opened on Monday, November 7. Yesterday, January 31, the cast visited Barnes & Noble, where they treated visitors to a special performance and signed copies of the just-released album. Check out photos below!
