The Public Theater presents VENICE, a new musical with book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax, lyrics by Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, and additional music by Curtis Moore, for its 2013 spring season at the newly revitalized Public Theater at Astor Place. Directed by Eric Rosen, VENICE will run in The Public's Anspacher Theater beginning on Tuesday, May 28 through Sunday, June 23, with an official press opening on Thursday, June 13. VENICE is a next generation Broadway musical that uses the vocabulary of hip-hop while sampling Othello and Brecht to spin an epic tale of struggle and redemption. Watch a promo for the show below!

Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has announced the availability of Desdemona by Toni Morrison, with lyrics by Rokia Traore, published by Oberon Books in London. This re-imagining of Shakespeare's Othello includes a foreword by Peter Sellars, who directed the piece at Barbican Concert Hall in London in July.

Papatango have teamed up with one of London's leading new writing venues, the Finborough Theatre to present the winning entries in the 2011 Papatango Playwriting Competition 2011, featuring this year's winning play Foxfinder by Dawn King which will play for a four week limited season from 29 November (Press Night: Thursday, 1 December 2011 at 8.30pm) and three runners up who will each receive a one week run - Through The Night by Matt Morrison (Press Night: Wednesday, 7 December 2011 at 6.30pm), Rigor Mortis by Carol Vine (Press Night:Wednesday, 14 December 2011 at 6.30pm) and Crush by Rob Young (Press Night: Tuesday, 20 December 2011 at 6.30pm).

Linda Kelsey Heads Benefit Performance of LOVE LOSS AND WHAT I WORE

Linda Kelsey, Saint Paul actress, five-time Emmy Award™ nominee and co-chair of Park Square Theatre's $4.2 million Next Stage Campaign, is raising money the old fashioned way - by putting on a show. To perform Love, Loss and What I Wore, Kelsey has assembled a cast of great women from the Twin Cities theatre scene to join her in the production: Sally Wingert (the Guthrie veteran last seen at Park Square in Spinning Into Butter), Mo Perry (featured in The Last Seder and Othello), Virginia Burke (who earned rave reviews for her turn in August: Osage County) and Aditi Kapil (one of Park Square's new Artistic Associates). Leah Cooper, who directed Park Square's searing season opener August: Osage County, will direct. The benefit performance will take place at Park Square one night only on Monday, February 13, 2012. Tickets are "pay what you think it's worth" and reservations will be available starting Friday, January 13.
