It's a journey marked by honesty and humor and filled with memorable songs.

Described as 'A Family Tragicomic,' Fun Home was written by cartoonist Alison Bechdel, best known for her long-running comic strip 'Dykes to Watch Out For.' Named the Best Book of 2006 by Time magazine, Fun Home was adapted into a musical by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori (Shrek, Violet, Thoroughly Modern Millie) and opened on Broadway in 2015 after a sold-out Off-Broadway run at the Public Theater in 2013.

Welcome to Fun Home, a look inside the family life of Alison Bechdel, a lesbian cartoonist whose gay father operated a funeral home and taught English in their small Pennsylvanian town before committing suicide soon after learning of his daughter's sexual orientation. 51Fest, a partnership between Women in the World and IFC Center, continued its inaugural festival last night with screenings and discussions about women's stories. Saturday got to a rowdy start with the exciting documentary Raise Hell: The Life & Times of Molly Ivins, where director Janice Engel led the crowd in a rousing chant to get them into the Ivins' spirit. The film, which tells the incredible life of powerhouse Texas journalist Molly Ivins, who famously told the stories plaguing America with humor, passion, and grit, was followed by a conversation with director Janice Engel and actor Kathleen Turner, moderated by New York Times reporter Rachel Dry.

As part of Kinesis Project Dance's Revealing Dances series, audience members are invited to take part in the creation of a new work, Breathing with Strangers, in Riverside Park South. The Revealing Dances Open Rehearsal will begin at 6:30pm on Wednesday, July 24. Guests are welcome to join the company at Engine Park in Riverside South, entrance at 12 Avenue, Riverside Boulevard between W. 59th Street and W. 72nd Street, NYC. This event is free and open to the public.
