Launching its first production of the 2019-2020 season, Creative Cauldron presents the regional premiere of the Off-Broadway sellout smash hit Disenchanted! Set in the present-day, a posse of storybook princesses, led by Snow White, ditch the damsels-in-distress diatribe and tell some hilarious truths about those so-called a?oehappily-ever-aftera?? endings. Serving up the irresistible songs and wit of playwright, composer, and lyricist Dennis T. Giacino is the critically acclaimed team of director Matt Conner, musical director Elisa Rosman, Scenic and Costume Designer Margie Jervis, and Lighting Designer Lynn Joslin. The production will run through October 27 at Creative Cauldron, 410 South Maple Avenue, Falls Church, VA. Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma was awarded a grant from Disney to bring the Disney Musicals in Schools program to Oklahoma City Public Schools. The program, in its second year at Lyric, is a free initiative developed by Disney Theatrical Productions to create sustainable theater programs in under-resourced elementary schools. Lyric Theatre will select five area public elementary schools to participate during the 2019-2020 school year.

The Chicken Ranch has shut down and is making the way for the Hundred Acre Wood in downtown Arlington, as Theatre Arlington turns their attention to children and families, with the musical, Winnie the Pooh, written by Steven D. Morris with music by Don Powers. This adaptation of A.A. Milne's classic story brings Winnie, Tigger, Piglet, Eeyore, Christopher Robin and all their friends to life and was originally written and staged by Steven D. Morris and Don Powers in 1986. At that time, Morris was the theater's first Children's Theatre Director and was frustrated by the lack of entertaining scripts for children, so a few years earlier he set out to create his own with his talented friend, Don Powers, who composed all the new music.

Valley Youth Theatre (VYT) opens their 24TH production of A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail, Friday, December 6, at 7:00 pm, at Valley Youth Theatre.  In addition to opening night, public performances include Saturdays and Sundays, December 7, 8, 14, 15 and 22 at 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm, as well as three performances on Saturday, December 21, at 11:00 am, 1:30 pm and 4:00 pm and two performances on Monday, December 23, at 10:00 am and 12:30 pm. The theatre is located at 525 North First Street, in Downtown Phoenix, and ticket prices begin at $17, when purchased as part of a 4-show package.

The program is an initiative developed by Disney Theatrical Group to create sustainable theatre programs in under-resourced elementary schools. The four schools are a part of Los Angeles County. The four schools include: Dr. Owen Lloyd Knox Elementary (LAUSD), Eastman Avenue Elementary (LAUSD), Euclid Avenue Elementary (LAUSD) and San Gabriel Avenue Elementary (LAUSD).

The story of The Wizard of Oz has been told numerous times in many different ways. Originally a book written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum with the first Broadway musical adaption coming in 1902. Of course the most popular version is the 1939 musical film adaption starring Judy Garland as Dorothy. For the 60th anniversary of the film release the Gooseberry Park Players decided to bring the story to their stage. Most people know the story, but this version may offer some new scenes not seen by many before, including the 'Jitterbug' song/scene that was actually cut from the original movie due to time constraints.

When I hear the term "Summer Camp," I have an idyllic vision of canoes on a lake, arts and crafts (I was a whiz at braiding lanyards), and sappy songs around a campfire. That vision, as Margaret once said, is "gone with the wind." Today's youth want to have a good time exploring more relevant skills such as acting, singing and dancing. The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts hosted its second Student Share Celebration for the Disney Musicals in Schools program on Tuesday, April 2. More than 150 students from four local Title I elementary schools performed in the showcase for hundreds of family and friends. The showcase took place in the Center's Dreyfoos Hall.
