Audiences might be familiar with the 1993 film, a?oeA Bronx Tale,a?? which was directed by and starred Robert De Niro. It's the tale of a young man growing up in the Bronx in the 1960s who is torn between his father and the Mafia boss who takes him under his wing. The film also featured its writer, Chazz Palminteri, and was based on his one-man play of the same name. The musical A BRONX TALE was adapted by Palminteri from that play over the course of a decade and opened on Broadway in 2016. It is this production that is at DPAC this week, as a stop on its second national tour.

Badiene Magaziner will present and host a Benefit on November 25, 2019 at Feinstein's/54Below for the AJ Project. The AJ Project was founded by Christine Perrelli in memory of her son, AJ Perrelli. AJ, a professional dancer, singer, and actor, passed away from an unexpected head injury at the age of 26. AJ toured with The Village People, performing the role of The Cowboy throughout the country. He had just completed his run and trained Jim Newman to take over, while he stepped in as stand-by for The Construction Worker and The Cowboy. a?oeI was teaching Nick Perrelli, AJ's brother, at the time. A Bronx Tale had a one-night performance in Jacksonville November 13 and audiences loved it! The musical, based on the 1993 movie of the same name, follows Calogero. Calorgero is 8 years old and sees, what can only be described as traumatic to an 8-year-old. After this traumatic experience a man named Sonny takes him under his wing and teaches him the ways of the neighborhood. A Bronx Tale is filled with wonderful music by Alan Menken, great talent, and an intriguing story.

'It really has nothing to do with musical theater. I think just the nerves of getting out there in front of people and doing something that may be a little outside your wheelhouse gives you the confidence to do that. I took a lot of that in preparing for the role. I was much more nervous getting ready for the role. Once I was up there, I felt pretty good about it. I think it gave me the confidence to be on stage and deal with live crowds.'

A Bronx Tale is set in the Bronx in the 1960s and is based on the writer Chazz Palminteri's true life story. With music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, this musical is sure to appeal to everyone. A New York native, Tyler graduated from Elon University in Elon, North Carolina this year. This is Tyler's national tour debut.
