Inspired by the myths of fiddlers' dealing with the Devil, the piece takes a hard look at the association between a virtuoso's egotism and hellish temptation. Written by Douglas Waterbury-Tieman with direction by John Hurley, choreography by Jennifer Jancuska, music supervision by Scott Wasserman and music assistant direction by Matt Cusack.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director, Oskar Eustis; Executive Director, Patrick Willingham) will present the Abbey Theatre and the Royal Court Theatre's acclaimed 2016 production of CYPRUS AVENUE, a new play written by David Ireland and directed by Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone, featuring Stephen Rea, who last performed at The Public in 2008 in Sam Shepard's Kicking a Dead Horse. Following encore engagements at Dublin's Peacock Stage at the Abbey Theatre (April 30-May 19) and the MAC in Belfast (May 23-26), CYPRUS AVENUE will begin previews for a limited eight-week run on Saturday, June 2 and run through Sunday, July 29 in The Public's LuEsther Hall, with an official press opening on Monday, June 25.

Guitar slinger Jesse Dayton has announced the release of this forthcoming album The Outsider, out June 8, 2018 on Blue Elan Records. In anticipation of the release, he has shared the first single “Hurtin' Behind Pine Curtain” via Guitar World. Jesse Dayton's career reads like a who's who of American music, having recorded guitars on records and film with Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Johnny Bush, Glen Campbell and more. He has toured the world with punk legends X, filling for guitarist Billy Zoom on a 40-city U.S. tour. Rob Zombie asked him to write and record a soundtrack for his film 'The Devils Rejects,' which then lead to co-writing songs for Rob's follow up franchise film, 'Halloween 2' (which Dayton appears in playing the part of character 'Captain Clegg'). Great Apes is a new play by Patrick Marmion directed by RSC and Donmar actor Oscar Pearce (Wolf Hall, Real Thing), based on the novel by Will Self. It is a raucous, surreal modern satire that mixes Self's famously rich language with subtle simian movement and vocalisations to create a theatrical 'Planet of the Apes' crossed with 'Gulliver's Travels'. Mosaic Theater Company of DC, the 2017 Helen Hayes Award-winning theatre for Outstanding Emerging Company, will begin its 2017-2018 season with the Off-Broadway hit The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith. Written by Angelo Parra and performed by the indomitable Miche Braden (who also directed and arranged the music) and directed by Joe Brancato, this boisterous show featuring thirteen songs tells the story of Bessie Smith's final performance after she and her band are turned away from a whites-only theatre in 1937 Memphis. Previews begin August 24 with a press opening of Monday, August 28, and the show runs through September 24, with a potential extension week through October 1.
