Penny Marshall had plucked this precocious, 11-year-old kid from the Bronx to play the younger version of Tom Hanks' character, Josh Baskin. This comic fantasy-fable about a boy who literally became 'Big' overnight, was a giant box-office hit. Moscow was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Young Actor in a Comedy. This year, the Bowl's annual staged musical visits the 2001 international phenomenon about a young woman's plot to uncover the identity of her father among three of her mother's former loves, all of whom are invited to her wedding on a Greek island. But which man turns out to be her father and walks her down the aisle? Filled with ABBA's timeless songs, including 'Dancing Queen' and 'Voulez Vous,' get ready to have the time of your life July 28-29-30 seeing MAMMA MIA! at the Hollywood Bowl, directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall and conducted by David Holcenberg. Kathleen Marshall is one of Broadway's most celebrated artists. Honored numerous times for her work on stage and screen, she has won three Tony Awards (with six more nominations) and two Drama Desk Awards (four additional nominations). Marshall has also been nominated for both an Olivier and an Emmy. The MAMA MIA! production at the Hollywood Bowl marks her Los Angeles debut as a director/choreographer, and I recently was fortunate to speak with her, and stars Corbin Bleu and Lea DeLaria, about their excitement being involved in the musical extravaganza. Ghostlight Records will release of the Original Cast Recording of Bubble Boy, the new musical based on the 2001 cult classic film of the same name, in both digital and physical formats on Friday, July 28. The show is created by Cinco Paul (music, lyrics and book) and Ken Daurio (book), writers of the international hit animated films The Secret Life of Pets, Horton Hears a Who!, The Lorax, and Despicable Me 1, 2 & 3. Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) and the Gregory Awards announced today that critically-acclaimed writers and performers Justin Huertes and Sara Porklalob will host the 9th Annual Gregory Awards, live at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at the Seattle Center on Monday, October 23 (7:30pm). This will be both Huertes and Porkalob's first time hosting the Gregory Awards, though neither are new-comers to the award ceremonies. Huertes is a 2015 two-time winner for his work Lizard Boy, while Porkalob was a featured performer in last year's ceremony. (more...)
