Performances run April 16 - May 1, 2010 in the Brown Theater of the Wortham Theater Center. Opera News calls Richard Jones's production of The Queen of Spades, originally created for Welsh National Opera 'telling theatricality.' Opera San José proudly launches its 27th Anniversary Season with the West Coast premiere of Anna Karenina, an American opera by composer David Carlson with libretto by the late Colin Graham. Eight performances are scheduled from September 11 through 26 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José. Opera San José will present Anna Karenina with a new scene added by the composer following the opera's 2007 world premiere at Florida Grand Opera. Puccini's MADAME BUTTERFLY is a staple of the opera repertoire and the most often performed opera in the United States. The Opera Memphis production featured a modern yet traditionally Japanese costume and scenic design by renowned ceramic artist Jun Kaneko. A live simulcast of the opera took place at the Levitt Shell in midtown's Overton Park during the April 20 performance. The night also featured the last public performance of Michael Ching as Opera Memphis Artistic Director.
