The Australian Ballet Opens Its 2018 Season With MURPHY, A Tribute To Australia's Iconic Dancemaker

The Australian Ballet opens its 2018 season with Murphy, a tribute to the country's greatest choreographer Graeme Murphy who celebrates his milestone 50-year career in ballet. Murphy began his dance career in The Australian Ballet's corps de ballet, made his first work for the company's Choreographic Workshop in 1971, and went on to become artistic director of Sydney Dance Company for 31 years. Murphy brings together a diverse selection of works by the master storyteller, showcasing the bold originality, wit and poetic movement that have earned him a peerless place in Australian dance history. His exquisite retelling of the Firebird story will be paired with highlights from his incandescent career. The Murphy program will light up the stage in Melbourne at Arts Centre Melbourne from 16 to 26 March 2018, and in Sydney at Sydney Opera House from 6 to 23 April 2018. (more...)

Sir Richard Eyre's Production of Mozart's Comedic Masterpiece, LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Returns To The Met

Sir Richard Eyre's staging of Le Nozze di Figaro, with the action of Mozart's masterpiece relocated to 1930s Seville, returns to the Met on December 6 for 11 performances through to January 19, conducted by Harry Bicket. Initial performances feature soprano Christiane Karg making her Met debut as the maid Susanna, opposite bass-baritone Adam Plachetka as her fianc , the valet Figaro. Soprano Rachel Willis-S rensen stars as the Countess, a role she sang for her Met debut in the production in 2014, opposite bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni also reprising his interpretation as Count Almaviva, with mezzo-soprano Serena Malfi as his page, Cherubino. Legendary ballet costume designer HOLLY HYNES and costume and scenic designer ZACK BROWN are among the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Award recipients which were just announced by TDF, the not-for-profit service organization for the performing arts. Ms. Hynes was selected to receive the 2018 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Brown will receive the Robert L. B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through TDF's Costume Collection. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street). (more...)

Rossini's Semiramide is presented at the Met for the first time in 25 years, with eight performances beginning February 19, 2018, led by Maurizio Benini. The cast, comprised of artists considered by many to be amongst the world's leading bel canto singers, includes Angela Meade in the title role, Elizabeth DeShong as Arsace, Javier Camarena as Idreno, Ildar Abdrazakov as King Assur and Ryan Speedo Green as the High Priest Oroe. The famed Endless Night Vampire Ball returns to Los Angeles on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. The Enchanted event will take place at The Globe Theatre downtown. Heralded as 'The #1 Halloween Soiree in the World' by TripAdvisor, the Endless Night Vampire Ball is best described as 'Venetian Masquerade Ball meets a Vampire Court, with the Energy of a Rock Concert and the Elegance of a Burlesque Cabaret.' This year's event proves to be especially unique with its theme: California Vampires honors The Lost Boys. The year is 2018 and it has been 30 years since the Lost Boys coven has been destroyed in Santa Carla. Father Sebastiaan invites the Vampire World to the Endless Night Los Angeles Vampire Ball on AntiValentines Day for a grand gala in memorial. To honor the Lost Boys coven, guests are encouraged to bring their finest vampiric attire from history before the Midnight Cirque entered around a live performance G Tom Mac., writer and singer of the famous vampire song Cry Little Sister. Doors to the event open at 9pm and the Endless Night will continue until 3am. The evening will be filled with lavish gentleman and beguiling ladies. DJs will keep the dance floors moving while guest explore the unique vendors and secret rooms at The Globe. Surprises await around every corner. At Midnight, a Cirque will be held on the main stage led by Father Sebastiaan and will feature a costume contest and special performances. Dress code is strictly enforced. Guests are encouraged to 'go all out' for Endless Night. Acceptable dress code for the event includes: 1980s finest Rockstar or Moviestar, Victorian, Edwardian, Latex, Ancient Cultures, Baroque, Medieval, Pagan, Elegant Gowns, Top Hats, Black Tie, Cloaks and Capes. Fangs and Legacy Ankhs encouraged but not required. Not accepted are: jeans unless it is apart of a Lost Boys / Rockstar costume. No superhero cosplay (unless it is done really well as a vampire), no street clothes. Be fabulous and amazing.
