Acting Company and Creative Advisors Join Sundance Institute's 2017 Theatre Lab at Sundance Resort

Sundance Institute's Theatre Lab kicks off today with the announcement of this year's participating acting company and creative advisors. The Lab, which runs through July 30 at the Sundance Resort in Utah, is supervised by Artistic Director Philip Himberg and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, and is the centerpiece of the Institute's year-round work with the theatre community. It's one of 24 residency Labs the Institute hosts each year for independent artists in theatre, film, new media and episodic content. (more...)

Paul Alexander's TRINKETS Comes to 21 Bond Arts Center

Playwright Paul Alexander is a 'NY nightlife legend' most notably known for the 1990's performance art-dance party Jackie 60 where he honed his vocal emcee and performance skills. Following many solo underground dance singles he gained international success with the dance pop trio The Ones, known for their #1 Dance/#7 Pop hit Flawless. Trinkets, is an original musical play set in NYC during the 1990's. It tells a story of a group of drag and transsexual prostitutes, who work the streets of the meatpacking district. This fantastical story taken from reality shows a moment in the growth of the LGBT community, which is often overlooked. (more...)

California Shakespeare Theater continues its 43rd Season with the West Coast premiere of black odyssey, a thrilling and music-infused new play that mashes up Greek mythology and African-American folklore. black odyssey marks the Cal Shakes debut of Oakland native Marcus Gardley (The House That Will Not Stand at Berkeley Rep), and is only the second production ever of the play, which is being re-set in Oakland for Cal Shakes.
