Actor Burt Grinstead gained recognition in Los Angeles for his terrific performance in Deathtrap at LGBTQ and later in The Rope at Actors Co-op. He formed his own production company and produced and co-starred in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which he also adapted with his partner Anna Stromberg. They won top prize at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2018. Grinstead is currently preparing to open as Richard the Lionheart in The Lion in Winter at Laguna Playhouse this Sunday November 10. In our conversation he talks about the play in depth and lays bare his passion for the acting profession.

The production is directed and choreographed by Robin Levine, with musical direction by Jillian K. Zack. The show features two different youth casts of orphans, the Charles cast and the Strouse cast. Playing the roles of Annie are Lily Hogge (Charles Cast) and Zoi Pegues (Strouse Cast). Also, featured in the company are Robert Newman as Oliver 'Daddy' Warbucks, who is best known for his 28-year run as 'Joshua Lewis' on the hit television series Guiding Light, and Erin Fish as Ms. Hannigan who recently played the role on the U.S. National Tour.

Set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp in Calais, France, the Jungle became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people in 2015. In the Iowa Stage production of 'The Lion in Winter', by James Goldman family issues are prevalent as King Henry, Queen Eleanor and their three sons argue over who should take over the throne after King Henry. 'The Lion in Winter', which opened this last weekend and continues through March 3, was a true master class of what makes a great show.
