The University of South Carolina theatre program will present Scenes from Metamorphoses, Mary Zimmerman's profoundly moving adaptations of classic Greek myths, October 28-31 at the Lab Theatre.  

After one of the most difficult years for live theatre, Pear Theatre is proud to announces its 20th anniversary season: 20 PearFect Years, Now 20 More. This exciting and ambitious lineup pairs new shows with shows that the Pear has done in the past, with many of the production slots performing in repertory (“Pear Pairings”). 

In the midst of current theatre closures and social distancing efforts, Bag&Baggage Productions, Hillsboro's resident professional theatre, is looking to the future. While B&B's typical theatre season begins in the summer months, the company's plans for the 2020/21 Season are shifting in response to the current state of the world, with the new season slated to open in September of 2020.

In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 40 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2020 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 15 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

Lookingglass Theatre Company welcomes five new Ensemble Members and four new Artistic Associates into the Lookingglass family. Joining the Ensemble are Walter Briggs (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Moby Dick), Kasey Foster (The Steadfast Tin Soldier, 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas), circus choreographer Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi (The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein), Anthony Irons (The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Act(s) of God), and composer and sound designer Andre Pluess (The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Eastland). New Artistic Associates include Cordelia Dewdney (Moby Dick, Hard Times), Wendy Mateo (Big Lake Big City, Beyond Caring), costume designer Sully Ratke (Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas) and Matthew C. Yee (Treasure Island, Moby Dick).

Inferno Theatre presents Metamorphoses, adapted by Giulio Cesare Perrone from Ovid's masterpiece, a fantastic retelling of humans, animals, plants, and mythical creatures on an epic quest to save the ecosystem (and ultimately themselves) from extinction. Metamorphoses opens Friday, October 11 at Berkeley's Studio Azul, and runs Fridays through Sundays through October 27.

The 72nd Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 10th at 8/9c hosted by Josh Groban and Sara Bareilles. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize...

'Bodies' is the first word spoken in Mary Zimmerman's adaptation of Ovid's METAMORPHOSES, and it's the physicality of the story telling that makes this show such a theatrical pleasure. First developed with students at Northwestern, the production went pro and opened on Broadway in 2002 at Circle in the Square. There it created quite a splash, literally: the first two rows of audience were supplied with disposable raincoats. Yes, that's right: METAMORPHOSES is staged in and around a pool.

Lookingglass Theatre Company announces casting for the world premiere of The Steadfast Tin Soldier: A Christmas Pantomime, from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, conceived and directed by Ensemble Member Mary Zimmerman. The Crosstown Players' production seeks to explore Ovid's classical myths with a modern, visceral movement style that breathes life into these stories in a new and exciting way. There are six performances in the month of July, beginning with their opening night on July 13th.

Second Stage Theater (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Casey Reitz, Executive Director) has announced additional casting for the New York Premiere of TRACY LETTS' acclaimed play, MARY PAGE MARLOWE.

The event will feature a free performance by EK Theater of Niobe, a video game puppetry piece that uses the first-person shooter Halo: Reach to show how Niobe is punished by the gods for her arrogance in this story from Ovid's Metamorphoses, followed by a panel discussion about real world violence and its relationship to video games.
