The Portable Dorothy Parker in Broadway THE PORTABLE DOROTHY PARKER
Kenyon Hall
4/20-4/22/2018
Grove Goddess Productions is pleased to announce the Pacific Northwest premiere of The Portable Dorothy Parker at West Seattle’s Performance Palace, Kenyon Hall, on April 20th 21st, and 22nd. Written by Annie Lux, directed by Lee Costello, and performed by Margot Avery, this award-winning one-woman play had successful runs last year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as two special performances at the Phoenix Artist Club in London’s West End.   The year is 1943, the place, New York City. Dorothy Parker—famed for her wit and her presence at the legendary Algonquin Round Table—is in her hotel room. Viking Press is about to publish a collection of Dorothy’s poems and short stories, and Dorothy must make the selections. An editor is about to show up at her door. Even worse, a young woman editor. They could have at least sent a man, preferably a good-looking young one. But of course all the men worth their salt are off fighting the Germans or Japanese, including Dottie’s husband Alan Campbell. As Dorothy sorts through her works, she reminisces about her life: her famous friends (Lillian Hellman, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and especially, Ernest Hemingway), the wits of the Round Table (Alexander Woollcott, Robert Benchley, George S. Kaufman…), the founding of The New Yorker, and her many loves and heartbreaks.

Dirty Dancing in Broadway DIRTY DANCING
Toyota Center (Kennewick)
4/25-4/25/2018
Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story On Stage is an unprecedented live experience, exploding with heart-pounding music, passionate romance and sensational dancing. Seen by millions across the globe, this timeless love story features the hit songs "Hungry Eyes," "Hey Baby," "Do You Love Me?" and the heart-stopping "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life." London's Sunday Express says "This crowd-pleasing stage adaptation hits the jackpot!" It's the summer of 1963, and 17 year-old Frances "Baby" Houseman is about to learn some major lessons in life as well as a thing or two about dancing. On vacation in New York's Catskill Mountains with her older sister and parents, Baby shows little interest in the resort activities, and instead discovers her own entertainment when she stumbles upon the staff quarters when an all-night dance party is in full swing. Mesmerized by the raunchy dance moves and the pounding rhythms, Baby can't wait to be part of the scene, especially when she catches sight of Johnny Castle the resort dance instructor. Baby's life is about to change forever as she is thrown in at the deep end as Johnny's leading lady both on-stage and off with breathtaking consequences.

Wolf at the Door in Broadway WOLF AT THE DOOR
Key City Public Theatre
4/12-4/28/2018
– Evictions are rough, man. The paperwork’s killing me! A tenant’s right’s association built on shaky alliances comes to loggerheads in the face of a gentrifying block in this hilarious world premiere by acclaimed playwright, Richard Dresser. Known for his successful plays, Rounding Third and Johnny Baseball, Richard Dresser is no stranger to KCPT. 2018 marked his third time participating in the annual new works festival, PlayFest. This year, Wolf at the Door, received a final tune up before it rolled into rehearsals. Wolf at the Door utilized double roles for each actor with the exception of Chuck Filipov, who returns after working in PlayFest 21 and 22 to play Keith. Aba Kiser, last seen in last year’s smash hit, Murder Ballad, plays both Tina and April. Jade Evans makes her KCPT debut playing Mandy and Quaneshna. KCPT mainstay Michelle Hensel is Gertrude and Vanessa. KCPT Artistic Apprentice Brendan Chambers is Jason and Phil, and Dillon Porter, KCPT’s soon to be lead in August’s production of Hamlet, is Sean and Garth. There’s a new landlord who’s promising to make the building better, safer, and more modern. But what about the people in rent controlled apartments who have started to disappear, and isn’t building security just a little over the top? Tina thinks it’s time to form a Tenants Association and fight back before it’s too late. Will they hang together or hang separately?

Musical: Stephen Sondheim Improvised in Broadway MUSICAL: STEPHEN SONDHEIM IMPROVISED
Market Theater
4/15-6/3/2018
UP Improv celebrates the work of America’s most noted musical theater composer, Stephen Sondheim by creating his lost work. Sondheim created masterpieces, like Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, Company, along with creating the lyrics for Westside Story and Gypsy.  With the audience, we create a full-length musical that has incredible rhymes, intricate melodies, and flawless lyrics. There is no script, no pre-planned music, and no preconceived plot. Our improvisers use your suggestions, their wits and Sondheim’s work as a roadmap to create a new musical in front of your eyes. Located conveniently within the historical Pike Place Market at the infamous Gum Wall within lower Post Alley.
