    At its very heart, WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) is a celebration of the arts: in every form, from every country, for everyone. And what better way to celebrate the arts than a festival? Part of The National Theatre's free series of River Stage takeovers, WOMAD brought live music, workshops and dance from around the world to the heart of London.

    This weekend, WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) has brought a world of culture to the South Bank. Part of the National's River Stage series, acts such as beat boxer Grace Savage and musicians Afro Cluster have taken over the stage. As Sunday kicked off, BroadwayWorld thought we'd try our hands (and feet and hips) at some dance. Leading a Jus Dance session, Ripton Lindsay chatted to us about workshops, WOMAD and why he loves to perform.

Saturday's lineup features performances and workshops, from a range of artists and for a range of ages. Kids as young as three crowded the stage to learn how to beat box from UK champion Grace Savage. Grace joined us just after to share her experience and reveal why that's the perfect age to start.

    National Black Theatre's 49th Season Heads 'Black to the Future'

    Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre's 49th season cedes the floor to modern-day griots with gripping, one-person tales capturing the trauma and triumph of a people. In a nod to the African tradition of the storyteller and historian who inspires and uplifts, the season is anchored by two one-person shows, The Peculiar Patriot, by Liza Jessie Peterson, a coproduction with Hi-ARTS, and Sancho by Paterson Joseph, a coproduction with Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) and Pemberley Productions. Themed "Black to the Future," the 49th season-which includes workshop productions by resident playwrights-seeks to take stock of the present and look to the past to predict and help shape a brighter future for Black people.
