DAUGHTER OF THE REGIMENT
San Diego Civic Theatre
1/26-2/3/2013
Nine high Cs for the tenor in one aria, and brilliant coloratura for the soprano, make The Daughter of the Regiment an exciting, sparkling and hilarious opening to the 2013 Season. This inventive production from Italy's Teatro Comunale di Bologna places the opera in the waning days of World War II. The Opera tells of an orphan French girl adopted by a regiment of soldiers. An independent, tomboy-like spunky girl, Marie loves Tonio, a peasant, but the Marquise tries to marry her off to a rich Duke. She's thwarted by another "invasion" by the regiment, which frees Marie to marry Tonio. Yes, a happy ending!

Birch North Park Theatre
1/4-2/3/2013
Hershey Felder's AN AMERICAN STORY for ACTOR AND ORCHESTRA, which tells the story of Abraham Lincoln's last day, will have its world premiere at San Diego's beautiful Birch North Park Theatre. For this new production, Felder will create the role of Dr. Charles Augustus Leale, the 23-year-old Union Army medic who was the first to reach the presidential box at Ford's Theatre on the night President Lincoln was shot. Mrs. Lincoln then put Dr. Leale in charge to see the President through his last hours. AN AMERICAN STORY features an original book and score by Felder, and will be performed with live orchestra. Drawing upon the songs of great American composer Stephen Foster (Beautiful Dreamer, My Old Kentucky Home, etc.) as well as President Lincoln's own words, AN AMERICAN STORY is based on true events as seen through the eyes of a young man who suddenly found himself at the center of world history.

San Diego Repertory Theatre
1/12-2/10/2013
Winner of the 2012 Tony Award for Best Play, 2011 Pulitzer Prize and Olivier Award for Best Play, Clybourne Park is an unforgettable new story about race, class, and real estate in America. Jokes fly and hidden agendas unfold in a tale told without good guys or bad guys, just real people with real concerns about the future of their community. Clybourne Park has been called by critics and audiences both "shockingly entertaining" and "appallingly funny." It promises to be one of the feistiest and funniest evenings of American theatre in years.
