BWW Review: THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER is a Holiday Hit at Spotlight Youth Theatre

Continuing an annual tradition this holiday season, Spotlight Youth Theatre features 70 children sorted into three separate casts for their annual no-cut production of THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER.

The show follows the humorous story of putting together a seemingly hopeless church Christmas pageant, featuring some of the "roughest kids in town" in the title roles of Mary, Joseph, the Angel of the Lord, and the Wise Men. Even though the pageant has been a huge success in previous years, this year isn't looking too bright.

Spotlight puts on a musical adaptation of Barbara Robinson's book, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. Aftering seeing Cast B, there is no doubt that Spotlight provides each an every cast member a spectacular opportunity to grow, learn, and star onstage. Being a no-cut production, no child was turned down a role in the production. This large group of kids put on an adorable and hilarious performance, the audience roaring in laughter throughout the show.

Several stand-out performances include those of Mia Hurley, playing Beth, the story's narrator. Mia does an outstanding job and is remarkably admirable in the process. With both a great voice- speaking and singing- she leads the show without skipping a beat. Her family members, Charlie (Karson Javis), Grace (Lily Swope), and Bob (Ethan Shreeve) all add their own quirky and sweet twists to the Bradley Family.

Contrastingly, those of the Herdman Kids, known as some of the "roughest, toughest kids in town", put on a strong and intimidating performance. Imogene (Katie Kloberdanz) is the oldest and leader of the family, followed by Leroy (TJ Brumbaugh), Gladys (Bella Swope), Ollie (Kai Nunziato-Cruz), Claudia (Teagan Dinyes), and Peewee, played by the tiny but terrifying Meredith Arends. All 6 of the Herdman children are uniquely crude and powerful in their own ways, each bringing their own dynamic to the performance.

The rest of the cast puts on a promising performance filled with lots of potential. It is evident that each child recieved top-notch training throughout the rehearsal period, as they all seem to enjoy being in the spotlight and showing off their new-found skills.

THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER is a humorous and entertaining holiday show that can't be missed this holiday season. It runs through December 17th. Get your tickets today at
