BWW Review: Childsplay Presents a Perfect Show for Younger Ones This Holiday, GO, DOG. GO!

BWW Review: Childsplay Presents a Perfect Show for Younger Ones This Holiday, GO, DOG. GO!Childsplay Theatre does a spectacular job of introducing the art of theatre to younger generations through their colorful, energetic, and playful production of GO, DOG. GO! Even though the show is recommended for younger audience members and is based on a children's book, it is greatly enjoyable for children of all ages and their family members.

Based on P.D. Eastman's "Go, Dog. Go!", the show is led by the MC Dog (Jon Gentry), accompanied by 5 other loveable pups, played by Jennie Rhiner (Hattie), Caitlin Dhuse (Yellow Dog), Brynn Lewallen (Green Dog), Adam Sowards (Blue Dog), and Michael Thompson (Red Dog), all graduates of ASU.

The show follows the book perfectly, and although not many different words are used, the story is told flawlessly, to the point where it is simplistic enough for the youngest audience member to understand, but still entertaining for the eldest as well.

The set is a simplistic array of objects that slide on and off, including trees, ladders, dogs, tools, and even cars! The dogs comedically engage with the props with a lively and delightful energy throughout the 50-minute-long musical. Every musical number is an adorable combination of barking and emulating short, jazzy songs that remain on the mind of the audience for the rest of the day.

All six cast members interact with each other and with the audience throughout the show through several silly and comedic sequences, games of catch, and hosting a short Q&A session after the show that gives audience members a chance to learn more about the process of putting together a show.

Perhaps the most powerful part of this stellar production is after the Q&A session, before the audience leaves the house, when cast members remind each and every child that just like each one of the dogs, they each have something special about them as well. They remind the children that it's important to love yourself for your unique qualities, an important message for the kids of today.

Childsplay Theatre hosts several shows per season and is currently showing a one-woman production of A CHRISTMAS CAROL as well. Tickets for GO, DOG. GO! are available at, the show runs through December 23rd and is a great activity for all families this holiday season.
