BWW Preview: CHARLOTTE'S WEB at Desert Foothills Youth Theater
CHARLOTTE'S WEB, a play described as a "fun, silly, and heartwarming" by several cast members, opens January 12th at Desert Foothills Youth Theater.
CHARLOTTE'S WEB, adapted from E.B. White's lovable story, tells of the miraculous friendship between a "terrific" pig (Wilbur) and a spider (Charlotte). This particular staged version features cast members creating their own sound effects, a unique aspect of the show that Desert Foothills and the show's director, Mikaella Belsan, has chosen to feature.
Stage manager Jessica Holt encourages families of all ages to bring their children and/or grandchildren, noting that "Audiences should come see the show because it is a beautiful story full of friendship, selfless love, and sacrifice. For parents, it can be a nostalgic look back at a book from their childhood and for kids it teaches valuable lessons about life and death".
The cast of CHARLOTTE'S WEB features nineteen children ages 8-14, several portraying Wilbur's beloved animal friends from the barnyard. Certain members of the cast are scheduled to also take part in "Charlotte's 'Terrific' Tea Party", an event prior to the January 15th matinee where families can enjoy tea, treats, lunch, listen to stories, and meet members of the cast.
Desert Foothills Youth Theater, founded in 2006, is a branch of Desert Foothills Theater. The theater has been recognized for their full-scale productions for several years. The program strives to "develop creative, thinking actors who understand the teamwork, collaboration and discipline required to excel in the theater community".
Be sure to gather your entire family to see CHARLOTTE'S WEB, which runs through January 21st at Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center Black Box Theater. Tickets are available at dftheater.org or by clicking here.
