A select group of journalists have visited the backstage at The Theatre at Solaire in Paranaque City to explore first-hand the behind-the-scenes of the Broadway musical Cats. The international touring company's stage manager, Jordan Goff, was our able guide.
Andrew Lloyd Webber's blockbuster musical Cats, which is based on T.S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and presented in Manila by GMG Theatrical Productions and David Ian Productions, has opened its limited four-week run (until 1 December 2019 only) at The Theatre at Solaire in Paranaque City.
CATS is not your ordinary musical. In fact, it's a sung-through piece of dance theater, which was conceived for the West End stage at a time when Andrew Lloyd Webber had never yet had a huge hit, and the emerging art form was heavily identified with the American Theatre.

Joanna Ampil may have already checked off Grizabella from her dream roles, but there's something about the musical that makes her want to reprise the role once more. 'I'm doing it again because it's in Manila, hahaha!' she shared. 'I've always wanted to bring Cats to Manila and finally we have the chance, so I'm excited. I'm nervous also, but I'm more excited about it.'
Andrew Lloyd Webber's 2015 West End revival production of 'Cats' plays a strictly limited run at the Theatre at Solaire starting November 6, 2019. It will feature star world-renowned musical theater star Joanna Ampil ('Miss Saigon,' 'Jesus Christ Superstar'), who reprises her role as Grizabella.
