The New Amsterdam Singers, led by Music Director Clara Longstreth, will perform New York premieres by Ronald Perera and Kirke Mechem on a program of choral music entitled Morning, Evening, Earth and Sky Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 8 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 316 East 88th Street. Ronald Perera's Earthsongs, a cycle of six poems by E. E. Cummings, was written in 1983 for women's voices, and was recently rearranged by the composer for mixed voices. (more...)

Miriam Theatre Presents Natalie Merchant, 7/20

On Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 8pm, Natalie Merchant will perform at the Merriam Theater of the University of the Arts. This appearance is part of her nationwide tour in support of her new album Leave Your Sleep. The tour will be Merchant's first major outing in seven years. The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in association with the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, is pleased to present an evening of poetry, theater and reminiscences in honor of the induction of Tennessee Williams into the Cathedral's Poets' Corner. On Thursday, November 5th at 7:00pm, theatre luminaries, friends of Mr. Williams and people who were inspired by his life work, will take part in the historic celebration. Participants include Eli Wallach & Anne Jackson, Vanessa Redgrave, Marian Seldes, John Guare, Olympia Dukakis, John Patrick Shanley, Gregory Mosher, Sylvia Miles, William Jay Smith, Lenya Rideout, Jeremy Lawrence, Wyatt Prunty, David Kaplan, Thomas Keith, Mitch Douglas, and current Cathedral Poet-in-Residence Charles F.
