Twitter Watch shines a BWW spotlight on Neil Patrick Harris, star of the CBS Comedy 'How I Met Your Mother'. Neil will also direct an upcoming production of RENT at the Hollywood Bowl set to run from August 6 to 8, 2010. As BroadwayWorld previously announced, Harris has cast High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi, and has taken to Twitter to defend his choice to gossip blogger Perez Hilton.

Vanessa Hudgens will star as Mimi in the premiere of Rent at the Hollywood Bowl on August 6, 7 & 8, 2010. Hudgens is best known for her breakout role in the High School Musical series as Gabriella Montez, for which she received numerous nominations and awards. Her debut album, V was certified Gold. Her second album, Identified, was released in 2008. She earned critical acclaim for her role in the 2009 film Bandslam. She will next be seen this summer in Beastly, a modern day take on Beauty & the Beast, for CBS Films and recently wrapped Zack Snyder's highly anticipated Sucker Punch for Warner Bros.

Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St. in Greenwich Village) will present Nate Rufus Edelman's play THE BELLE OF BELFAST - the second of three plays staged this spring as part of Cherry Lane's award-winning 12th annual MENTOR PROJECT playwriting series - with performances starting April 27.

According to numerous published reports, Mariah Carey may be immortalized in a new musical about her life and, allegedly, the famous singer is hoping to be portrayed on Broadway by Leona Lewis. A spokesperson for Carey reveals: 'Mariah is in talks for a Broadway musical to be made about her life in 2009.'

Performance schedules for the three world-premiere Mentor Project plays have been announced by the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), where the new plays STRAY by Ruth McKee, THE BELLE OF BELFAST by Nate Rufus Edelman and PATERNITY by Winter Miller will be performed this spring from March 16 to May 29.

Performance dates, directors, initial casting and design team are set for the Cherry Lane Theatre's 12th annual Mentor Project - which includes the world-premiere of three plays by emerging writers: Ruth McKee's STRAY, directed by Giovanna Sardelli (BENGAL TIGER AT THE BAGHDAD ZOO) and mentored by David Henry Hwang, performing March 16th through March 27th; Nate Rufus Edelman's THE BELLE OF BELFAST, directed by Eric Tucker (CLOSER) and mentored by Charles Fuller, performing April 27th through May 8th; and Winter Miller's PATERNITY, mentored and directed by celebrated playwright Craig Lucas, performing May 18th through May 29th, all at the Cherry Lane Theatre Studio Theatre (38 Commerce Street).

On March 18, stars came out to the ShoWest CBS Luncheon at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas to celebrate old projects and introduce the new. On hand were How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris, Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Jennifer Lopez and more.

Vanessa Hudgens will be honored by ShoWest with the Female Star of Tomorrow award at ShoWest's Final Night Banquet and Award Ceremony on Thursday, March 18, at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Carla Gugino has signed on to the revenge thriller 'Faster,' a co-production of CBS Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group. The 67th Golden Globe Awards were broadcast live on NBC last night from the Beverly Hilton. The awards ceremony was seen in more than 160 countries worldwide and is one of the few awards ceremonies that span both television and motion picture achievements. Reports are circulating that Precious star Mariah Carey is in talks to play the mother of High School Musical vet Vanessa Hudgens in a new movie based on The X-Factor and American Idol television shows.

CBS Films has released the tease trailer for its new Beauty and the Beast remake, BEASTLY. Vanessa Hudgens and British actor Alex Pettyfer star in BEASTLY. The film is directed by Daniel Barnz and produced by Susan Cartsonis in association with CBS Films.

The TEEN CHOICE AWARDS 2009 took place last night at the Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA. At the live ceremony yesterday evening, Sunday August 9th, 'Twilight' star Robert Pattinson claimed surf boards both for best movie actor and best hottie. The Jonas Brothers rode five boards to victory, but Miley Cyrus beat them, as she claimed six.
