Grant Park Chorus Announces CD Debut

Celebrating its 50th season, Chicago's Grant Park Chorus, conducted by Christopher Bell, makes its a cappella recording debut with a CD of imaginative, moving, and sometimes whimsical works written between 1974 and 2005 by seven contemporary American composers.

George Lepauw Joins Chicago Arts Orchestra Tonight, 5/19

Chicago Arts Orchestra (CAO) presents an evening of music by Ludwig van Beethoven titled 'The Emperor' featuring guest artist George Lepauw tonight, May 19 at the Athenaeum Theatre, 2936 N. Southport. This concert features Beethoven's works 'Creatures of Prometheus Overture', 'Piano Concerto No. 4', 'Consecration of the House Overture' and 'Piano Concerto No. 5', also known as the 'Emperor Concerto'.

Dallas Opera Hosts MAGIC FLUTE Screening at Cowboys Stadium Tonight

Mozart's THE MAGIC FLUTE will be simulcast live tonight, April 28, 2012 at 7:30 PM (doors open at 6:00 PM) at the high-tech home of the Dallas Cowboys at One Legends Way in Arlington, Texas. Patrons will be able to enjoy a complete, unabridged live performance on the world's largest high-definition video board structure, comprised of four massive viewing screens (the largest, 72 feet tall and 160 feet wide) suspended directly above the playing field.

Bach Week Founders Reunite to Open 39th Festival Today

The 39th annual edition of the Chicago area's Bach Week Festival, where Baroque music lovers luxuriate in diverse works of Johann Sebastian Bach, will present a signature blend of solo, concerto, orchestral, and choral performances in concerts tonight April 27, May 4, and May 6 in Evanston.

Emory's Schwartz Center for Performing Arts welcomes the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) on Thursday, April 12 at 8 p.m. Joining the ACO will be New Zealand opera star Teddy Tahu Rhodes. The concert program includes Mahler, Shostakovich, and modern composers such as Robert Saxton. Teddy Tahu Rhodes will performing Beethoven's An die ferne Geliebte and Richard Rodney Bennett's Songs Before Sleep.

Metropolitan Opera Announces 2012 National Council Auditions Winners

The Metropolitan Opera today announced the winners of the 2012 National Council Auditions. They are: Janai Brugger, soprano from Darien, IL; Anthony Clark Evans, baritone from Owensboro, KY; Matthew Grills, tenor from Newtown, CT; Margaret Mezzacappa, mezzo-soprano from Euclid, OH; and Andrey Nemzer, countertenor from Moscow, Russia. The winners were selected from nine finalists who performed arias with the MET Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Davis. Each winner receives a cash prize of $15,000, as well as invaluable career exposure: the audience for the auditions includes influential opera executives, artist managers, and music critics, and some of the biggest stars in opera received their first major recognition as National Council Winners. The Grand Finals Concert was hosted by renowned bass-baritone Eric Owens, a 1996 National Council Auditions winner. During the judges' deliberations, he gave a special performance of "Ella giammai m'amo," King Philip's aria from Verdi's Don Carlo.
