BWW Review: BALLET FESTIVAL Dazzles at The Joyce

Thoughtful. Provocative. Exciting. Moving. Hilarious. This is how I would sum up Program C of Ballet Festival, performed at The Joyce Theater last Thursday night, August 15, 2019. Curated by Jean-Marc Puissant, the program consisted of three classical and contemporary pieces, diverse in both emotional and technical truths. Additionally, the caliber of dancing on this particular evening was superb–and not just because of the quality of the dancers themselves, but also because of their impeccable timing and synchronicity. Everybody was truly on their game.

BWW Review: FREDDIE FALLS IN LOVE Doesn't Quite Take Off

I had high hopes for FREDDIE FALLS IN LOVE, the dance piece running at the Joyce Theater July 23-August 4. After all, it was choreographed by Emmy Award-winner Al Blackstone, and it stars SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE winner Melanie Moore along with Broadway actor Matt Doyle.

BWW Review: THE BOURNOVILLE LEGACY Comes to NYC

The Joyce Theater presents The Bournonville Legacy, July 9 - 14, 2019. Excitement was in the air on opening night when I attended. August Bournonville (August 21, 1805 - November 30, 1879) was a dancer, choreographer, and director of The Royal Danish Ballet. His choreographic legacy that emphasized bravura dancing and mime is an important chapter in the history of ballet.
