Ballet Hispánico's B Unidos Instagram Video Series Continues Next Week With 3. CATORCE DIECISEIS

Ballet Hispánico continues B Unidos, its new Instagram video series. Next week's programming begins on Monday, April 20, 2020 with a testimonial from BHdos company dancer Melanie Ramos at noon, followed by an inspirational message at 3pm from actor and tap dancer Ayodele Casel (one of The New York Times' 'Biggest Breakout Stars of 2019') at www.instagram.com/ballethispanico/.

Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company Announces Free Online Company Classes Weekdays At Noon

In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company keeps its dancers in shape by conducting regular Company Classes online from Nai-Ni and Company dancers' living rooms using Zoom. After a few weeks, Company members and Nai-Ni invited former dancers of the Company and friends to join through Zoom. At the same time, company dancers translated their online dance teaching skills to serve K-12 students and students with disabilities in underserved communities. Dance has brought them rays of hope and joy in their confined environment.

The Joyce Theater Cancels Performances Through End of March

The Joyce Theater Foundation (Linda Shelton, Executive Director) announced changes today to the current season's programming in light of the preventative measures being taken across New York City to curtail the spread of COVID-19. Effective beginning today, Friday, March 13 through the end of March, all performances at The Joyce Theater are cancelled to ensure the health and safety of The Joyce's patrons, staff, and artists.

Toby Lightman, Elina Duni and More Are Heading to Joe's Pub This Week

The bright vibrancy of spring resonates at Joe's Pub. This week our stage features the sophisticated and unique urban pop sound of Toby Lightman; songwriter, composer, and creative director Sye Elaine Spense; the last performances of Ryan Raftery's IVANKA 2020 before he takes it on tour; Albanian singer and multi-instrumentalist Elina Duni; Pianist, composer, and Artistic Director for Cuba's Jazz Plaza Santiago Festival, Roberto Fonseca; and National Lampoon's satire of Coachella and modern music festival culture LEMMINGS: 21ST CENTURY.

Carnegie Hall's Beethoven Celebration Continues This Spring

This spring, Carnegie Hall's season-long Beethoven celebration continues with a vibrant series of events featuring the complete Beethoven symphony cycle with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra, the complete piano sonatas by nine leading artists, and the complete string quartets by Quatuor Ebène, as well as workshops, lectures, and more. Beyond Carnegie Hall, public programming and events, including music, dance, exhibitions, and lectures at prestigious partner organizations across New York City highlight the many dimensions of the great music master. Together, the Beethoven celebration features more than 70 programs, creating an extraordinary view of this revolutionary composer.

BWW Review: BWW REVIEW: OPERA BALLET VLAANDEREN BRINGS CONTEMPORARY DANCE TO NYC at Joyce Theater

a??a??a??a??a??a??a??Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Artistic Director of Ballet Vlaanderen (Flanders) since September 2015, has steered the company in a diverse and versatile direction, uniting forty dancers from over fifteen countries. Cherkaoui bridges the gap between ballet and contemporary dance by bringing in some of today's respected contemporary choreographers. On the program currently showing at the Joyce Theater are three contemporary ballets by Akram Khan, Chrystal Pite, and one of his own pieces. This is an exciting program to bring to NYC. I, too, was excited to attend the opening night performance on March 3rd.

Limon Dance Company Will Perform in 3 Limon Classics at the Joyce

The Limón Dance Company, Colin Connor, Artistic Director, will appear at The Joyce Theater, March 31-April 5, in a program of three Limón masterworks: The Traitor, Orfeo, and Mazurkas. Here is a special opportunity to see a richly varied all-Limón program, and new productions of his masterworks, performed by an ensemble of virtuosic, expressive artists.

Apollo Theater Has Launched a Major Commissioning Initiative Dedicated to the Creation of a Diverse Performing Arts Canon

The Apollo Theater announced today its first multi-work commissioning initiative dedicated to the creation of a diverse, 21st century American performing arts canon, Apollo New Works. Made possible with the support of a $2 million grant from the Ford Foundation for the creation of new work by artists of color, the initiative is also funded by a $1 million grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for the Apollo's Master Artist in Residency, a central component of the program.

Trisha Brown Dance Company Will Celebrate its 50th Anniversary at The Joyce Theater

Trisha Brown Dance Company will celebrate its 50th anniversary at The Joyce Theater (April 21-26) with an historical season commemorating Brown's extraordinary partnership with visual artist Robert Rauschenberg. Over the course of five decades, Brown and Rauschenberg maintained a remarkable creative dialogue, drawing inspiration from each other while investigating the visual and the kinetic. The Joyce program features two pivotal works: Foray Forêt, with original costumes by Rauschenberg, and Astral Converted, featuring Rauschenberg's costumes and mobile set of lighting towers.
