Founding Artistic Director Carol Piersol announces the exciting new lineup for the Firehouse Theatre Project's upcoming 2009-2010 season, beginning this fall. In the coming season, The Firehouse presents four brilliant playwrights new to the Firehouse stage: three who are well established (Howard Korder, Neil LaBute and Eric Bogosian), and one bright new rising star (Sheila Callaghan) whose play will be part of the statewide Minds Wide Open program featuring Women in the Arts.
13P (Thirteen Playwrights, Inc), the OBIE Award-winning theater company made up of 13 playwrights, will present Lucy Thurber's (P#8) 'MONSTROSITY,' directed by Lear deBessonet. 'MONSTROSITY,' featuring a cast of 21, will be performed at The Connelly Theatre, 220 East 4th Street (between Avenues A and B), with performances running from July 9 through 19, 2009 for a total of twelve performances.

Variety is reporting that Cherry Lane Theater has struck a deal with Westbeth, the artists' community that until recently housed Bank Street Theater in its space. Cherry Lane will expand into the theater, renaming the 90-seat black box venue the Cherry Pit to become its third stage. Not only will the venue give Cherry Lane another base for its mentoring program reports Vairety, but it will also provide an additional revenue stream as homeless New York City theater troupes hunt for affordable performance space to rent.
