The Kansas City Ballet continues to establish itself as one of the finest regional ballet's in the country.

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced tonight the complete list of winners for the 2012-13 season. The Bessies, produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, were held at the legendary Apollo Theater at 8:00 p.m., following red carpet interviews and photographs with the nominees in attendance. Former Cunningham dancer Gus Solomons jr. and former American Ballet Theatre principal Martine Van Hamel co-hosted the evening and also performed Paul Taylor's rarely seen 1957 Duet as part of the evening's performances.

FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will open at The Bushnell's Mortensen Hall on Tuesday, October 15. With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional performer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL is part of the 2013-2014 Bushnell Broadway Series co-sponsored by Travelers and Webster Bank.

Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) has announced husband and wife team, John Kazanjian and Mary Ewald as the 2013 recipients of the Gregory A. Falls Sustained Achievement Award. The committee of prior recipients has made this selection to honor their dedication to the Seattle theatre community, much of it through their efforts with The New City Theatre. This award along with 17 others will be presented at the 5th Annual Gregory Awards being held at The Neptune Theatre on Monday, October 28, 2013 at 7:30pm.

Northrop at the University of Minnesota presents Hubbard Dance Street Chicago tonight, Sep 21 at 8:00 pm at the State Theatre as the opening performance in the 2013-14 Northrop dance season.

Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch announced touring plans for both the professional company and Houston Ballet II, the second company, for the 2013-2014 season today. During Mr. Welch's tenth anniversary as artistic director, touring engagements will take Houston Ballet to New York City, Paris, Montreal, and Chicago.

Kansas City Ballet's 56th season opens with a Fall program featuring a new work by Los Angeles-based choreographer Jodie Gates, George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, Jerome Robbins' hugely popular Fancy Free with music byLeonard Bernstein, a recent work by William Whitener, and Opus One, a world premiere by newly appointed Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney. The Fall program will be accompanied by Kansas City Symphony and conducted by Kansas City Ballet Music Director Ramona Pansegrau.

Richmond Ballet has announced that both Marty Davis of Los Angeles, California, and Elena Bello of Jersey City, New Jersey, have been invited to join the Ballet's professional company for the 2013-14 season. Lauren Archer, Jesse Lyon, Melissa Robinson and Sarah Joan Smith will join the ranks of Richmond Ballet II, the Ballet's second company, this season.

Flashdance - The Musical, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will make its Wisconsin premiere at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center Nov. 12-17. Tickets will go on sale Friday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. Ticket prices start at $50 and will be available at the Fox Cities P.A.C. ticket office, by visiting foxcitiespac.com, or by calling (800) 982-2787. Famed choreographer James Kudelka will create a new work for the company. British master and Houston Ballet's associate choreographer Christopher Bruce's Intimate Pages will have its Houston Ballet premiere. World premieres by Garrett Smith and Melissa Hough round out the program.

Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the nation's leading Latino dance organization since 1970, announces the first performance of the Fall 2013 Season for BHdos, the company's pre-professional troupe. BHdos will perform at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center in Central Park as part of the Harlem Meer Performance Festival on September 1. This is a free event; no tickets will be issued. Ballet Hispanico, recognized as the nation's leading Latino dance organization since 1970, will perform on the Kykuit Tennis Lawn at The Pocantico Center, 200 Lake Road, Pocantico Hills, NY, on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at 6:30pm.
