Renee Fleming will reprise her tour-de-force portrayal of the title character in Rossini's virtuosic rarity Armida for a run of performances beginning February 18.

In April of 2010 the Metropolitan Opera mounted the company premiere production of Rossini's opera Armida starring American soprano Renée Fleming in the title role. Fleming had previously triumphed at the opera house in other lesser-known operas (Il Pirata, Thaïs, Rodelinda and others) and so it was with great acclaim that the Met staged this bel canto rarity specifically for the soprano. The May 1, 2010 performance was broadcast as part of the Met's Live in HD series and it is now brought to DVD by Decca - available February 15, 2011.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago has announced that Renée Fleming, internationally known soprano singer, will join the company's board of directors as the creative consultant -- a first in the company's history. She will commit to the role immediately and has signed on for a term of five years. She, along with Sir Andrew Davis, Lyric's music director, have also been elected to the Board of Directors as Vice Presidents.

Last night, October 14th, 2010, Sing for Hope (www.singforhope.org) presented its annual gala to raise awareness and support for Sing for Hope's programs that mobilize professional artists in volunteer service to benefit schools, hospitals and communities. The event also raised funds for the 2011 return of Sing for Hope Street Pianos, a public art installation that brought 60 upright pianos to the streets of New York this past summer, and embodies Sing for Hope's mission of making art available to all.
