The New York premiere of Martin Zimmerman's Seven Spots On The Sun, directed by Weyni Mengesha, presented by Rattlestick Playwrights Theater in collaboration with The Sol Project, celebrated its opening night on May 10. Attendees included Ethan Lipton, Leigh Silverman and Keith Randolph Smith. Woodie King Jr.'s National Black Touring Circuit, in conjunction with Voza Rivers/New Heritage Theatre Group, held a special presentation of the 2015 Black History Month Play Series at Harlem Hospital on February 15 with a special reading of Ossie Davis' 1950s Civil Rights school desegregation play The People of Clarendon County and the one man show Adam, the story of Harlem minister and congressman Adam Clayton Powell. Both plays will be performed February 20 - 22 at Mind-Builders Performing Arts Center in the Bronx. Check out photos below!

Naked Angels and The New School for Drama presented Angels Ajar, a benefit reading of new work by Jon Robin Baitz, Janine Nabers and student Kirit Limperis last night, Nov. 4. All proceeds to benefit the new partnership between Naked Angels and The New School for Drama. All plays were directed by Daniel Aukin. The American Repertory Theater and the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute for African and African American Research present A Panel Discussion in conjunction with the A.R.T. production of All The Way entitled All the Way: The Civil Rights Act from 1964 to Today, on Monday, September 23rd at 4:00 at the Loeb Drama Center, 64 Brattle Street, Cambridge. The panel is moderated by Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Alphonse Fletcher University Professor at Harvard University and Director of the W. E. B. Du Bois Institute, and includes panelists Peter J. Fernandez, Peniel E. Joseph, Timothy Patrick McCarthy, and Patricia Sullivan. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations are recommended.

Yesterday, May 9, The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center presented its annual Monte Cristo Award to legendary Broadway and screen actor James Earl Jones, in recognition of his monumental achievements and contributions to the American and international theater community. The award was presented to Mr. Jones at a gala dinner that included special guests and performers Tony Award-nominee Michael Berresse ([title of show], Kiss Me Kate); Chris Chalk (Fences),; Academy Award-winner Michael Douglas (Wall Street); Emmy Award-winner Charles S Dutton (The Piano Lesson, 'Roc'); Tony Award nominee Penny Fuller (Dividing the Estate, The Dinner Party); Tony Award-winner Boyd Gaines (Driving Miss Daisy, Gypsy); Oscar, Tony and Emmy Award-winner Vanessa Redgrave (Driving Miss Daisy, Long Days Journey Into Night); Tony Award-winner Ruben Santiago-Hudson (Seven Guitars); Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams (On Golden Pond, King Hedley II); and Eugene O'Neill Theater Center Executive Director Preston Whiteway.
