'Committed: The Musical Unplugged' written and directed by, Jerome Brooks, Jr. is based on true events with fictional elements. The story is about Jazz Johnson a black male and aspiring Broadway pianist in New York who is committed to playing music of all genres for his friends until he finds himself committed to the psych ward. On January 18th, 2019, Dixon Place presents, 'Committed: The Musical Unplugged' at 7:30 p.m., concert of the first 45-minutes in The Lounge located at 161A Chrystie Street in New York 10002. The place is a Manhattan loft shared by Anna, a lithe young dancer-choreographer, and her two gay roommates-her collaborator, Robby, who has just been killed in a freak boating accident, and Larry, a world-weary, caustically funny young advertising executive. As the play begins Anna is recovering from attending Robby's funeral, comforted by her wealthy, well-meaning boyfriend, Burton, a sci-fi screenwriter whose persistent proposals of marriage Anna finds herself unable to accept. Then, with sudden, unexpected explosiveness, Robby's older brother, Pale, bursts on the scene. He has come to collect his brother's belongings-but stays on to transform the action of the play and the lives of those in it. Menacing, profane, dangerous and yet oddly sensitive, Pale is both terrifying and fascinating and, in the end, the one who brings to Anna the unsettling but compelling love that, despite her fears and doubts, she cannot turn away. Theatre Raleigh's Family Series is back and better than ever! Last year they welcomed more than 2,000 young people and their families into their audience, and they are expected to exceed that this season. They will be bringing back last year's breakout hit, A Midsummer Night's Dream (March 2- 18) and follow that with the premiere of a brand new show Adventure Road: A Story of Huck & Tom (April 13-29).
