In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month and to mark the centennial of Ella Fitzgerald's birth, the Philly POPS will celebrate the First Lady of Song's musical legacy with her frequent collaborator Louis Armstrong in a swinging lineup of their biggest solo hits and duets. Master jazz trumpeter Byron Stripling and R&B sensation Marva Hicks join the POPS for Ella, Louis & All That Jazz March 31-April 2, 2017 at the Kimmel Center.

The Sheen Center for Thought & Culture (18 Bleecker Street) has announced the Spring programming of the 2016-2017 season. Featuring thought-provoking theater, film, music, poetry, art, and discourse, The Sheen Center will continue several successful series launched in their inaugural season, as well as maintain a focus on fostering new talent. Building on its first season that featured David Mamet and a re-envisioning of his play The Anarchist; Comedian Jim Gaffigan; speaker Michael Bloomberg; a panel discussion on Netflix's Daredevil with Marvel TV; red carpet screenings and an extended run of the hit play Universal Robots by Mac Rogers, the Sheen Center continues its excellence in diverse programming.

Tony Award nominee and Grammy award winning Michael McElroy and the Broadway Inspirational Voices launches 'Broadway Our Way' , a video series celebrating some of Broadway's greatest tunes performed the BIV way,  August 1st on Youtube. The series will present Broadway songs performed in the Gospel style and will feature original arrangements by Michael McElroy and appearances by special guests.

Motown the Musical returned to Broadway this week at The Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41 Street) for a strictly limited 18-week-only engagement through Sunday, November 13, 2016. 

On May 2nd, The 52nd Street Project held their annual benefit, LAUGHING MATTERS, Kids' Stand-up, Adults Deliver at the Edison Ballroom in New York. The raucous sold-out event hosted by comedians Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan, was The Project's most successful to date with over 350 people in attendance, raising funds for the Project's academic and artistic mentoring programming. The Project makes a difference in the lives of Hell's Kitchen (Clinton) kids by pairing them with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews, the Award Winning writers of Invisible Thread (Second Stage and ART) will present a workshop of their new musical THE FAMILY PROJECT in May. The new piece was written as a commission for Los Angeles Center Theater Group.

The cast of The York Theatre Company Musicals in Mufti presentation of DON'T BOTHER ME, I CAN'T COPE welcomed the great Maurice Hines, as well as original Broadway company members Ben Harney, Maria Thomas and George Faison, to performances over the weekend.
