Golden State Theater Productions Presents: 'RENT' January 29-31, February 4-7. Castro Valley Center for the Arts 19501 Redwood Road, Castro Valley

For the first time in nearly 15 years the Broadway production of Rent will not be playing anywhere in North America, when The Broadway Tour of the landmark musical closes in Sacramento, CA on February 7, 2010.

On Monday, January 18, the Broadway at Birdland series presented 'Wordland: A Night Without Ballads. Except For One. Maybe,' celebrating the lyrics of Amanda Yesnowitz. Lyricist Yesnowitz was joined by Broadway stars Chip Zien, Ann Harada, Noah Weisberg, Kate Reinders, Katie Clark, Courtney Balan, Lauren Kennedy, Farah Alvin and Carlos Encinias.

The Opera House Players are proud to present the Pulitzer and Tony Award Winning Musical RENT by Jonathan Larson from February 12 - 28, at the Broad Brook Opera House, 107 Main Street, Broad Brook, CT. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 2 pm.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Producing Artistic Director) in association with Snap-Two Productions, Inc. will present the World Premiere of Signs of Life a new musical, with book by Peter Ullian, lyrics by Len Schiff, music by Joel Derfner, music direction by Michael Pettry, and directed by Jeremy Dobrish.

New productions of Jonathan Larson's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical RENT are about to open in Manila, the San Francisco East Bay and New Jersey. And all these productions happen to feature Filipino and Filipino-American actors in their roster of young and hip cast members.

Quanah is the musical journey of Comanche chief Quanah Parker and his mother, Cynthia Ann Parker, who was kidnapped as a girl and raised by the Comanches as one of their own. It is about Christians, Comanches and Texas Rangers; killing and heartbreak and heroes; and how Quanah came to lead his people from the prairie to The White Man's Road.

The Broadway Tour of Rent provides Toronto audiences with a fairly close facsimile of the true original - as opposed to the hand-me-down tours that have previously played the city. The show, however, remains problematic. * * * 1/2 (out of 5)

RENT: The Broadway Tour has had a very successful run for the past year, and is quickly coming to an end. The tour arrived in Toronto on the 12th of January, receiving rave reviews and filling the seats of the Canon Theatre with eager fans, excited at the chance to see Original Broadway Cast Members Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp reprise the roles they first played over thirteen years ago on Broadway.
