The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) will present its Songwriter Spotlight concert at 54 Below, Broadway's Supper Club, on August 25 at 7pm.

The Meeting* hosted by Justin Sayre, the acclaimed comedy/variety show, will return to THE BOOTLEG THEATER tonight, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 at 7:30 PM. After extended runs at 54 Below and Joe's Pub in New York, the show recently made its Los Angeles debut and is back for two more performances. The show will feature special guests to be announced.

Musical Theatre Factory (MTF) will host their second monthly Factory Salon-an informal new works open mic night-on Thursday, July 17th, from 8pm to Midnight. Musical Theatre Writers are invited to showcase new songs, and singers are invited to perform songs by new writers. Joe Iconis (The Black Suits, Bloodsong of Love, NBC's Smash) is headlining the event, which will also feature sets by guest composers Lizzie Hagstedt, Alexander Sage Oyen, and Zack Zadek. LIKE BREATHING: MUSICAL THEATRE SONGS FOR A NEW GENERATION, a special one-night cabaret of contemporary musical theatre songs by the new generation of up-and-coming show composers, will take place tonight, Friday, July 11, 2014 at 8:00PM at Cafe l'Artere, 7000 avenue du Parc, Montreal.

The York Theatre Company, and its acclaimed Developmental Reading Series, will present the New York premiere of the new musical, Falling for Make Believe, written by Mark Saltzman with music arrangements by Keith Harrison. Directed by Kent Nicholson and with music direction by Ian Weinberger, the six-member cast features Jenny Ashman, Joe Iconis, Rebecca Ann Johnson, Ryan Reilly, Alan Schmuckler and Michael Winther. The single performance is set for TODAY, Thursday, July 10, 2014 beginning at 3:00 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (Entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). The reading is open to the public with a suggested donation of $5.00.

This week's featured composers are Joe Iconis, Lance Rubin, and Jason SweetTooth Williams whose song 'Spin Those Records' from their new musical Annie Golden: Bounty Hunter, Yo! was sung by the legend herself at their concert at 54 Below. You may recognize Annie Golden from the hit TV show 'Orange is the New Black' or from the Original Broadway Cast of HAIR. Since I attended more than 50 shows over the past eight months (a few more than once)--the large majority of which were reviewed on these web pages—I felt I had more than enough cabaret show inventory to present my second-annual “Mid-Year Cabaret Review” citing the “20 Best Cabaret Shows and Performances” for the first half of 2014. Since the eligibility period for 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Award consideration begins with shows staged since last November (late October if it was the first of a run), I've included a few of those late 2013 shows in this group. And with the announcement of the BWW Award nominees just four months away, I've offered some projections on the Award categories for which these shows very well might receive consideration.

Musical Theatre Factory will send its first two productions, THE DISAPPERING MAN and ONE WOMAN SHOW, to TheatreWorks Palo Alto's New Works Festival, August 9-17. The Festival has launched many new works onto TheatreWorks' stages and on to productions nationally, including Broadway's MEMPHIS and off-Broadway's STRIKING 12, EQUIVOCATION, and THE NORTH POOL.
