Let me put it this way... If Spring Awakening was the kind of show that made you feel good about the future of the American musical, I'd say there's a fine chance you'll enjoy Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson: The Concert Version. On the other hand, if you couldn't for the life of you stand one moment of Spring Awakening, or at the very least was of the humble opinion that it was far from the ground-breaking musical theatre revolution so many proclaimed it to be, I'd say there's a very good chance you will looooooooooooooove Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson: The Concert Version.

13P (Thirteen Playwrights, Inc), the OBIE Award-winning theater company made up of 13 playwrights, will present Lucy Thurber's (P#8) 'MONSTROSITY,' directed by Lear deBessonet. 'MONSTROSITY,' featuring a cast of 21, will be performed at The Connelly Theatre, 220 East 4th Street (between Avenues A and B), with performances running from July 9 through 19, 2009 for a total of twelve performances. (Evening performances will all be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9; Friday, July 10; Saturday, July 11; Sunday, July 12; Tuesday, July 14; Wednesday, July 15; Thursday, July 16; Friday, July 17; and Saturday, July 18. There will be three matinee performances at 1:00 p.m. on: Saturdays, July 11 and 18 and Sunday, July 19 (the final performance of 'MONSTROSITY' will be the matinee on July 19). South Coast Repertory will present The Brand New Kid, a musical lesson in tolerance and acceptance, adapted from Emmy Award-winning author Katie Couric's book, as part of its Theatre for Young Audience (TYA) series. Directed by Shelley Butler, with book by Melanie Marnich, music by Michael Friedman and lyrics by both, The Brand New Kid will run May 29 through June 14 on the Julianne Argyros Stage. Low-priced previews are available May 29 - June 5. Opening day is June 6. Hamingson) announced complete casting and creative team today for BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON: The Concert Version, the fourth play of the 2008-2009 Public LAB season. Written and directed by Alex Timbers and featuring music and lyrics by Michael Friedman, BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON: The Concert Version will begin performances on Tuesday, May 5 and run through Sunday, May 24. Tickets are $10 for all performances and are on-sale now.

La Boheme Comes To Nashville Opera 4/17, 4/18

Nashville Opera will present the final production of the 2008-09 season, Giacomo Puccini's La boheme. The performances will be staged at TPAC's Andrew Jackson Hall at 505 Deaderick Street on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18. Curtain for both shows is 8:00 pm with the free Opera Insights discussion occurring at 7:00 pm inside of the theatre. Nashville Opera's production of La boheme is directed by John Hoomes and features the Nashville Opera Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Christopher Larkin.
