The Connecticut premiere of Trav'lin - The 1930s Harlem Musical opens this weekend at Waterbury's Seven Angels Theatre, following productions at Houston's Ensemble Theatre and Fort Worth's Jubilee Theatre, and development in Washington, D.C. and New York City, including a sold-out run at the New York Musical Festival (NYMF).  Performances being Thursday, May 11, Official Opening is Saturday, May 13, and the show runs through Sunday, June 11, 2017.

Trinidadian-born spoken word artist Cherrie Amour presents her award-winning poem 'Hermoso Negro' as part of the 2013 Allen Ginsberg Poetry Reading and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, February 1st, at the Poetry Center at Passaic County Community College in New Jersey. The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) today announced that it will be naming its building to honor the generosity of Herb Alpert, Lani Hall Alpert and the Herb Alpert Foundation. On March 11, 2013, the Harlem School of the Arts' iconic home in Harlem will officially be named 'The Harlem School of the Arts - The Herb Alpert Center.'

The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA), the community-based cultural and educational institution serving children and families of all backgrounds for nearly 50 years, today announced that it will receive an historic grant of more than $5 million from the Herb Alpert Foundation. The grant, totaling $5,050,000, is a gift from legendary musician, artist and philanthropist Herb Alpert to ensure a sustainable future for the Harlem School of the Arts and the future of its students.

For over nine months, the Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) has worked with Disney Theatrical Group to develop adaptations of Disney's musical The Lion King for young performers. Aubrey Lynch is an original cast member and former associate producer of the Broadway production, and he has been overseeing HAS's workshop presentations of Disney Theatrical Group's newest in-development musical for young people. This process has become a vehicle for HSA to further its mission and develop a fifth discipline, musical theatre.
