LA Opera Off Grand to Present LA BELLE ET LA BETE with Live Performance of Philip Glass Score


From October 28 through 31, LA Opera presents a special Halloween treat for cinephiles and opera lovers alike: a screening of Jean Cocteau's ravishingly beautiful 1946 cinematic masterpiece La Belle et la B te ('Beauty and the Beast'), with an enchanting Philip Glass score performed live by the Philip Glass Ensemble and four vocal soloists at the spectacular Theatre at Ace Hotel.

DRACULA, Accompanied by Kronos Quartet, to Haunt Segerstrom Center


The Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Segerstrom Center for the Arts will co-present Tod Browning's 1931 film classic DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi with original music by Philip Glass performed live by the legendary composer at the piano, the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet, with Michael Riesman directing from the keyboard.

Phillip Glass to Hold Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall in Celebration of 80th Birthday


In celebration of his 80th birthday year, esteemed American composer Philip Glass has been appointed to hold the Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair at Carnegie Hall for the 2017-2018 season. The yearlong residency will present performances that feature both Glass classics and premieres: American Composers Orchestra dedicates a program to composers inspired by Glass; the Philip Glass Ensemble and the San Francisco Girls Chorus perform his groundbreaking but rarely performed masterpiece, Music with Changing Parts, as part of the citywide festival The '60s: The Years that Changed America; notable premieres include a string quartet for the JACK Quartet and arrangements by composer Nico Muhly of lesser-known Glass songs-both Carnegie Hall commissions; additionally, the Louisiana Philharmonic andPacific Symphony both make their Carnegie Hall debuts in programs selected, in part, by Glass in response to invitations extended to U.S. orchestras to submit programs that place important works by the composer in illuminating contexts. Widely admired for his innovative projects, composer/maker/visual artist Tristan Perich is pleased to announce the launch of Compositions, a series of four creatively packaged recordings coming out this year on his imprint, Physical Editions. Each Compositions release spotlights a single work by Perich for acoustic instruments plus 1-bit electronics. The first is Parallels (50', 2013), performed by the Meehan/ Perkins Duo and released today, March 24. Further releases in the series include Telescope (May), Dual Synthesis (August), and Active Field with Ensemble Signal (November); details appear below.
