At 81 years of age, Wadada Leo Smith is deep in the midst of the most creative and prolific period of an already formidable career.

A new work by groundbreaking composer and trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith, commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic will be premiered on Tuesday, March 8, 2022.  

Amas Musical Theatre in association with Sam McKelton, Into the Deep Productions, LLC will present Mighty Funny Kinda' Love ( A God - sibs' Tale), a new musical with book, music and lyrics by Pamela Baskin-Watson and book by Nedra Dixon, for three (3) performances only: Thursday, November 7 at 3pm & 7pm and Friday, November 8 at 7pm at A.R.T. /New York Theatres (502 West 53rd Street a?" 10th Avenue & 53rd Street) as part of its a?oeDare to Be Differenta?? series.

Wadada Leo Smith's Rosa Parks: Pure Love. An Oratorio of Seven Songs pays tribute to Rosa Parks for an action that, in Smith's own words, "generated a movement worldwide for liberty and justice for human beings." Through composition, Smith expresses his philosophical and spiritual narrative about his vision of this legendary figure. Embedded in the oratorio are brief excerpts from early recordings by Smith, Anthony Braxton, Leroy Jenkins, and Steve McCall, the four musicians who made up the legendary ensemble known as the Creative Construction Company. The oratorio is concerned with Smith's ideas and meditation on the Civil Rights movement, reconnecting history to the present through lighting, photographs, and video images.
